Does anyone have any examples of unusual signs on the railway - either the sign itself or the message conveyed?

This one on the up platform at Shenfield has a big question mark marked "Romford" which I assume is to remind drivers if they are calling there.

And at Blankenberge, Belgium there is a wooden manual PIS. This has a series of interchangeable panels (stacked behind the sign itself). I think this is an hourly repeating service at xx.52 hence they haven't put the hour up :)

I don't have a photo, but at Piccadilly station in Manchester, there are signs in many different languages explaining the Metrolink ticketing arrangements - that is, that tickets must be held before boarding and are not sold onboard.

Walthamstow Central has an old (decommissioned now, I think, but still in place) "Next Train" indicator, with arrows that lit up to point to the relevant platform.

(It might be helpful if you could edit your post and resize the images (click on them and drag the corners) to be a bit smaller so more of the post can be seen on the screen)

Perhaps not quite what you mean - but the signs proclaiming “Box Signal Box” and “Junction Road Junction” would have turned a few heads when they were still there (actually - the latter may still be)

There is (was?) a sign on Penrith Station that became famous on t'net. I'll leave it to you to discover its double entendre message.

There are signs of a similar ilk at both Treforest and Taffs Well stations reminding about stopping at Treforest Estate station.

And Didcot. Not a question mark but a full poster "DRIVER / Are you stopping at / RADLEY?" (plus a plethora of S markers)2019-05-08 01 GWR driver notice and stop signs at Didcot reduced.JPG

Here's one from Bologna, Italy: "It is forbidden to stay in front of the light signal".
