Unusual multiple unit couplings

EMR frequently does this on ECS moves, whether short depot hops (such as Notts -> Eastcroft) or longer moves (Like Eastcroft to Etches). Seen a couple of these in person, doesn't make them an odd sight though...

And in passenger service e.g. Liverpool to Nottingham.

At one point, there was something about number of cabs in the consist, if I recall correctly. That would only have affected smaller DMUs mind, or locos

Voltage drop across the autocouplers and train wires.

There was an occassion of a Northern 150 unit coupled to an FTPE 170 unit about fifteen years ago:



One of them had broken down a few miles away from Leeds station and the other ended up rescuing it and pulling it the few files in to Leeds station.

Formations of a 150 coupled to a 170 are not exactly rare (they have happened at Anglia Railways / Central Trains / London Midland / Scotrail many times) but a Northern unit and an FTPE unit coupled was certainly an oddity.

I know it's not as weird as some of the pairings seen in this thread but 158867 + 150224 (confirmed by sight) are running together on Leeds - Dewsbury - Bradford services today.
