Deerness valley perhaps? Think that was single line, no idea about turntables.
The terrain looks good for Deerness Valley, don't know about the turntable though.

It (Edit: Waterhouses) doesn't appear to have had one, so it's plausible. The terrain looks good for Deerness Valley, don't know about the turntable though.
AIUI, passenger trains ran only as far as Waterhouses, with freight running on beyond. No obvious means of turning a passenger loco at Waterhouses, but others may know more about the operating practicalities. It doesn't appear to have had one, so it's plausible.
Locos on passenger trains ran round at Waterhouses. There is a photo of a G5 tank doing so in a publication ‘The Lost Railways of County Durham‘. Also mentioned is that the branch was double track to a point a quarter of a mile beyond Ushaw Moor station! If correct the line would be single for just under 3 miles, onward to Waterhouses.AIUI, passenger trains ran only as far as Waterhouses, with freight running on beyond. Sorry, that's what I mean - previous post edited for clarity.AIUI, passenger trains ran only as far as Waterhouses, with freight running on beyond. No obvious means of turning a passenger loco at Waterhouses, but others may know more about the operating practicalities.
