The rules must have been changed in recent years then, as I remember one year the results could only be collated on the Saturday. Representatives of all nine candidates will not be be able in practice to be present on the Scillies. The crossings from Penzance by ship or helicopter are both regularly highlighted in the press as the most expensive in the world per mile, and as for finding a B&B for one night, such a thing doesn't exist at any time of year!

Representatives can be there if they wish. No requirement that the must be there. If they can’t afford the people or the costs it’s their problem not the returning officer’s. I think that’s the way it works.

Respecting your views - I simply don't understand how you can look at the Tories and think, yep, more of that please! Don't fall for this "Super majority" bunkum. It is odd how Tories are suddenly interested in "effective opposition" when they are on the end of a defeat!

PS I DESPISE the Tories. I do that naturally but the behaviour of the "Tory" party under Johnson, Truss and Sunak deserves censure. It has been nothing short of disgusting and anyone who facilitated that, even if they are a decent local MP, deserves the boot.

Well, that was definitely an alternative viewpoint! Many forecasts are saying the Tories will lose large numbers of seats so the prospect of a Labour "super majority" may not be bunkum. We'll know in less than twelve hours' time. If I have voted Conservative it won't have been for "them" as a party but for "him" as an MP.

I think that is the most damning thing. And to take it a step further, what other damage would they have done had they not been got rid of so quickly? There's a very good chance that some people can look back now and say she wasn't so bad precisely because she was stopped from doing any more damage.

The utter obsession with the Tory party on "tax cuts" above all else in life is frankly sickening - right through to Sunak - when especially Liz T proposed borrowing to fund said cuts , and remember her party foisted "austerity" to allow the banks to rebuild their own balance sheets !!! ....

No evidence of "trickle down benefits" from these policies as far as I can see , but then I am only a geographer and retired railway manager.....

Payback time from the "hard working" (favourite Tory term , rather overused) citizens - methinks.

Theresa May will be the most notable and becomes the second former PM to enter the Lords, while "Failing Grayling" also joins. Labour's includes some former prolific names like Beckett and Harman. Beckett being 81 could be interesting regarding Starmer's max age of 80 in the Lord's pledge, as she'd have to reture after 1 Parliament.

Have cast my vote for Labour, I took the dog with me so he could take part in the tradition for the first time. Polling station had a steady flow of voters coming and going, I was pleased to find the voting booths here were much more private than the circular table divided into quarters at my previous one in Liverpool. Haven't seen many posters in my part of the area, but we've got a few up. My partner's been very amused by having Samantha Dixon looking at her out of our lounge window each time she goes out and comes home.
