All I can make out is a diesel line and a curve that looks good for ~775mph in an APT-E...

No Phtoshopping - it's exactly how I took it.

I think a clue may be needed, so I will say that this is a very well known depot. there is a station just below the depot as we look at it in this picture, which serves the line which heads off as straight as an arrow, but not the line which curves away to the left.

That is Heaton, looking east. Byker Wall to the bottom right gives it away.

Floor is open.

Top right is what looks to be Swan Hunter shipyard, the track to middle right is Brough Park greyhounds, and my primary school is on the middle left. Looking at the ECML towards the bottom of the picture, where the last road overbridge is, that was the site of the old Heaton BR station which closed when Byker and Chillingham Road were created. Originally the plan was for the Metro to actually serve Heaton after Manors but at an early stage this was dropped in favour of using the current system of going right the way through Byker.

Clue: Somewhere in the Western Region. If you're passing through Bristol or Plymouth though, you're Bloody freezing!

I'm having a crack at it right now... the fact that it's a tidal river should narrow it down a bit...

And I'm not sure where it is; I thought it might be Kingswear but the roads must have been completely rebuilt if it is!

And I notice you didn't say which way one would have to go through Plymouth or Bristol to get freezing cold...!!

If you're anywhere near those two stations you're freezing cold! If I were ye, I'd stay away from other bits of Brunel's empire, too...

Ye are right about that water being tidal though, and I'll give ye a little bit more: That water flows into a larger water which - In turn - Flows into a sheltered sea.

Never taken a photo from a plane so I'm a bit limited but here's one that was taken from solid ground.
Two railways for the price of one in this. Not too difficult I think so there's a bonus for anyone who can identify where it was taken from.

Give the man half a coconut! You could also have said Tanygrisiau. The FR station is bottom left.

Given that the last two have been in Wales, I'm going to stab a guess that this one's in Scotland somewhere, but don't quote me on that.

That said; Given that few/none of us have easy access to aircraft, I've got the feeling that many of the posts here are going to be of railways taken from the mountainside - Which could limit the game a bit. Maybe we could change the rules and allow images from Google Earth as well?

Google Earth would make it too easy as the place names , road numbers etc are on the images. I would ask the OP though in the interests of keeping the game going, and for the same reasons death has pointed out, if images from the net at large are permitted as long as the poster credits the original photographer or website when the correct answer is given, this way my understanding is that no copyright would be breaced. Could be wrong though.

Trust me, it is easy - providing you know where it is, of course.
But it's not Scotland.

On the other matter of images from the web; I'd be against Google Earth images and similar but others from the web, with permission, should be acceptable. After all, how many of us actually have photos from planes?

I've already said that other images are fine ( provided the usual copyright rules etc are respected and if the Mods are happy ).

My objection to Google Earth images is that it is simply too easy to just skim around on it following the lines to locate somewhere, that's all.
