Can anyone also confirm if some kind of retention offer is still usually offered when you attempt to cancel Uber One?

My free month trial will expire on 1st May. However, if some decent retention offer is given, I could be tempted to go for the annual plan this time around
I had three months free which I cancelled about a week before the end; they haven't offered me anything better than standard.

Just wondered.

The last time a free trial was offered and I cancelled towards the end, recall getting a 20% discount on annual membership retention offer - which I didn't take up at the time. Uber were still offering a 5% cashback to non members at that time.

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

Also Uber are somewhat crafty.

I did two journeys booked at the weekend under the 10% cashback Uber One offer.

My membership is due to expire in a few days.

This would not be the first time that Uber have delayed the cashback until after the Membership expires, so that they can pay out the reduced 3% rate instead.

Does the trigger still occur if a smaller gift card balance is purchased instead?

I mean if you bought x3 £100 gift cards (or at a push x6 £50) as opposed to x2 £150 ones.

Also, what 'checks' are carried out?

Just bought two £150 gift cards today. Will let you know what checks are applied when I add them to my gift cards balance.
Also , is there a limit to how many £150 gift cards can be redeemed on one uber account ?
Thanks.

Yes there is, though what you're offered depends on your previous transactions - bigger spenders get better offers. It might also depend on when you attempt to cancel membership.

For my part Uber credits have always been commensurate with membership/rates at the time of booking and travel even if a membership/rate change is due soon afterward, in accordance with their terms.

I'm planning to buy a couple of smaller balance cards later, which will hopefully not require these potential verification checks.

Is rather silly, as gift cards can only be purchased. It isn't like it is very easy to steal them, as it requires someone, or a system to add the credit to the gift card.

They're a significant fraud and money-laundering risk. I wouldn't have thought good old-fashioned shoplifting even entered into it.

Although some people scratch off the sections of the card with the numbers on that are needed to redeem, note them down, hope retailers don't check these are secure and try and redeem before the purchaser.

I guess it's a bug in the Uber app. I'll report it.
Did you get anywhere with this?

I got an email reminding me of the offer and again the tickets are showing as £2.50 more than they should be then a £2.50 discount. For people who don't know what the ticket should cost that is rather misleading!

Right....

I purchased three gift cards of £75 each on the last day of the Sainsbury's promotion.

I purchased this amount to reduce the chances of this verification check issue some have encountered.

Was also surprised that I also got Nectar points on the purchase, which is an effective 1% extra on top - as I didn't think gift cards were eligible for Nectar points.

When adding the gift cards in the Uber App, what is the correct proceedure to follow to ensure that the balance CAN be used for train fares.

Seen previous posts stating if the balance goes into 'Money', then the balance is worthless for train fare purchases.

I'm guessing I have to go into 'Wallet' section. However, there are then the options for 'Payment Methods', 'Vouchers' and 'Promotions'.

(I also stupidly forgot to cancel the monthly plan, so am now lumbered with this for next month at £4.99. Although I actually started the free trial on the 5th April, so I didn't get a full free trial month out of them. It did appear the promo was specifically for start to end of April. If you started late, you then missed out on some of the free period.)

I *think* what I did last time (on an Android phone) was to
- go into Wallet
- at the top of the screen is my Uber Money balance
- immediately below that is a '+ Gift Card' button
- I entered the code on the screen that brought up.

I can confirm that today's train ticket was taken from the Uber Money balance, so I would speculate that if you get the value into there, you will be able to use it against train tickets.

I've just emailed Uber support, don't expect a useful reply!
Thank you for contacting Uber support powered by Omio. I hope that you're doing well.

I am sorry to learn that the £2.50 does not appear to process when attempting to make a reservation.

Please note that this offer targets reactivating inactive users in the UK and Spain. A lapsed user or customer is an individual who has previously interacted with or purchased from Uber but has not done so for a specified period. Only if you are this customer would you be eligible for it, and it would automatically apply to your subsequent booking.

I am sorry for the confusion.

Please feel free to contact me with any further questions.

I wish you a happy booking experience!

Kind regards,
Well that's clear as mud (the offer shows but is useless when the ticket is £2.50 more than it should be. Does anyone else have the offer and it's working correctly?)

I think I have had this once but don't really remember, so you are more up to speed than I am. But did the extra checks prevent or delay you from using the gift card?
No, I suspect there was some quasi credit check in the background that I passed. There was an implication that Government-issued documents might need to be supplied

I noticed at Manchester Piccadilly the other day Uber have seemingly used their marketing budget in taking over pretty much every advertising spot on the concourse with advertising that train travel can be purchased through them!

Sounds exactly like what they did at Waterloo a few months ago.

Birmingham New Street also currently has a mix of very big posters and adverts on the digital displays
I saw an Uber advert a couple of weeks ago at New Street that was suggesting you could get a train from New Street to Marylebone....

There was a bug with the Uber gift card balance system when they introduced the 2 tier/type system.

The problem is mostly fixed as I no longer have issues with using both for train fares. And for the 2 tricks…they are not gonna fare so well. While a substantial amount of a one-off top up (say 150) may trigger higher scrutiny, Uber has monthly and annual caps over which “verifications” will be mandated- and for better (for the convenience of honest users) or worse (for fraud prevention) they ask simple questions and the system decides if additional checks are needed, which rarely happens.

As for funding account via different channels that won’t work at all. The system allocates based on the types of gift cards or vouchers.

Ah, that explains why I was hearing different things about this when I first contemplated buying an Uber gift card to use on train tickets.
And for the 2 tricks…they are not gonna fare so well.
Sorry, I haven't the faintest idea what this means?

My experience was that a single top-up just led to the thing not working. No meaningful error message, just a recursive loop. And no "further checks", just flat refusal to work. And also, flat refusal to explain why it wasn't working until I got really pushy, and refusal to carry out any counter-fraud checks or fix the issue until I made a SAR (at which point what I'd previously been told was impossible suddenly became easy).

If that's how the system is meant to work and is what you're attempting to describe, I think you could have expressed it more clearly!
As for funding account via different channels that won’t work at all.
What sort of other channels, and why can't the customer choose by what channel to fund their account?

Allocates what?

Anyone know if its the possible to block the "Duplicate Booking?" pop-up on the mobile app?

Trying to book 2 extra tickets to a matching itinerary I have already booked some tickets for.

Whenever I reach the checkout page theres a pop-up warning of a potential duplicate booking - which is a great concept in theory.

The problem is whenever I try and change the ticket delivery method from M-Ticket to ToD, the pop-up comes again, and when you confirm you want to continue with the booking it refreshes the checkout page reseting the ticket delivery option back to M-Ticket.

This leaves me no way to actually get paper tickets for the 2 extra passengers, which is the ideal solution as they do not hold smartphones. I have tried using the Uber website but that appears to still be broken for train&coach bookings.

Have you tried using Firefox on desktop? https://travel.uber.com/go/travel/tour/booking/search appears to work fine for me

To be honest, as someone who doesnt own a printer that never crossed my mind. If I cant get the app to let me select ToD I will probably do this, the faff of getting them printed out somewhere is worth the 10% cashback you get.

Firefox is my primary browser. Tried all the usual (disable all extentsions, turn off all tracking protections and clearing all stored cookies) but it still doesnt let me check out on Uber Travel. Whenever I get to the checkout page it just shows one ticket option - "${ticketClassName} ticket" at price £NaN and I cant continue any further.

I've also tried on Edge and have the same results. Cant think of anything else to try.

I've found that if you create a separate profile (which is now an easy option in the main menu), and don't install any extensions on that profile, then it tends to work with all the stupid travel sites which use Impervia and block my normal Firefox setup. Might also work for you in this case

It means you have to have a separate window open for the other profile, but it's easier than using Chrome.

Yes, I have exactly the same problem. The £2.50 discount shows up in the inital screen clicking to the payment screen adds the £2.50 back on. The two voucherss show up in my account and I'm the customer profile they described as being eligible for the offer - a returning inactive customer who hasn't used their service for a while.

UPDATE: Uber replied to my query with a slighly more realistic response:
"I am sorry to hear that you are not being able to add the 2.50 promotions.
Please be aware that the promo issue has been identified and is currently being resolved."

Is it at all likely that Uber will start offering weekly or monthly season tickets anytime soon or is there some reason why this isn’t possible?
