G'day everyone,
Towards the end of last September, working away in Manchester and with my wife working nights and my youngest children back at Uni I decided to stop the night at my Mum's in deepest Derbyshire.
Having been picked up by Mum at the train station we headed off by car to the little hamlet where she and her partner live. The hamlet can only be accessed by narrow country lanes and a few minutes from Mum's there is a railway over bridge and an access point for track workers. As we approached the over bridge (where there is room for two cars to pass) we could see that the lane was blocked by vans. When I got out the car I could see that they were track workers and my exact words were "Hiya, do you mind moving up the lane so we can get by?". The exact response from one of the workers was "Can't you see that we're busy? You'll just have to wait". Not in the mood for an argument I said "Well do you know how long you'll be?" but all I got in return was "As long as it takes". Three to four minutes later and we were on our way.
Now I have no desire to get any one into trouble which is why I've been vague on detail but this all makes a mockery of the sign next to the access point which reminds track workers to respect the local neighbors! All I will say is that I assumed the workers were contractors and not Network Rail as the vans had all been hired and none of their hi-vis vests carried the words 'Network Rail'
Your thoughts on this would be much appreciated!
Kind regards and Happy New Year to you all!
