Trivia; which stations do better at weekend than midweek?

As a resident of Stalybridge, I don't think there's much difference between peak time loadings and Saturdays and Sundays, just the reasons for travel change. It's not as busy in the weekday daytimes though.
Same goes for Mossley and Greenfield.

Some of the smaller Mid-Cheshire line stations get higher loadings at weekends than on weekdays. It now seems to be the case that Northern prioritise strengthening Mid-Cheshire services on Saturdays over Buxton line services when a few years ago it was the other way around like it still is on weekdays.

Obviously stations that are there which specifically open to allow fans access to stadia (ie Man United's ground/stadium) don't count; but that aside there must be stations near out-of-town shopping centres or such like that have greater footfall on Saturdays and possibly Sundays than they would any other day of the week?

ISTR that Middlewood (on the Buxton line, aptly named because it is, umm, in the middle of a wood and not really near anything) is two-hourly Mon-Sat but hourly Sunday because of the increased walker traffic.

I don't know the numbers but wonder about Gatwick Airport, given that the airport itself peaks in summer weekends.

What's the obvious reason? If you're looking for a nice day out in the Northern Dales / Fells then Horton, Ribblehead, Dent and Garsdale are much better bets in my opinion.

The late afternoon 158 I picked up at Ribblehead yesterday had just enough seats for everybody travelling.

The only time you'll see a six-car formation on the New Brighton line in normal service is on a Bank Holiday weekend.

Certainly North Downs Line services can be very busy on weekends. Last Saturday I caught the 10:34 Reading - Gatwick at Blackwater. It was full and standing at least to Guildford, where I changed trains. There were lengthy dwell times at Blackwater and North Camp to allow everyone to squeeze on with their luggage.

Sundays can also be "fun" on this line - the hourly skip-stop timetable might save on operating costs, but also results in serious overcrowding.
