Trivia: Trains with unusual stopping patterns

The last daily Kings Cross to Leeds @ 2330 stops at Doncaster then diverts via Pontefract to Leeds. It must be the only EC train between Leeds and KGX that does not call at Wakefield Westgate.

There is a Sevenoaks stopper from the Thameslink, via Catford which calls at all stations as usual but is the only one in the timetable which omits Bickley and St Mary Cray. I can understand Bickley but St Mary Cray is a main stop on the line and always a busy alighting point in the evening peak. Especially being the last stop in the London boundary and zone 6. I have boarded this service at St Pancras Int twice before just assuming it's the usual Sevenoaks stopper and myself and quite a few people boarding in the Thameslink core hear the driver announce that it doesn't call at Bickley and St Mary Cray seem frustrated and return to the platform again realising the next Sevenoaks train is nearly half an hour later. Why would this train do this? it only seems to save a couple of minutes between Bromley South and Swanley

Think its down to the fact it needs to get ahead of the Maidstone East service at Swanley, there is a service that calls at Bickley and St Mary Cray 15 minutes later, the Rochester trains from St Pancras at 1714. The Rochester train only ends up 2 minutes behind the Sevenoaks train at Bromley South as it goes via Beckenham Junction and does not stop at stations on the Catford Loop.

That's interesting, thanks. I didn't even think about the Rochester train. I went back upstairs to have a pint instead waiting for the next Sevenoaks train
