Bromsgrove and Droitwich get one train per week (late Friday) direct to Ashchurch, Cheltenham and Gloucester with no return working.

There was a Taffs Well to Coryton first train on the city line until recent timetable change.

One valley line train goes from Rhymney to Treherbert as a split at Central with other half going on its usual route. Does that count?

Cherry Tree and Pleasington have an evening direct train towards Leeds (and York) but nothing direct from Leeds/York at all in the opposite direction.

Dore & Totley has another. The East Midlands 17.31 splits at Nottingham. Front half from Sheffield (rear half from Liverpool to Dore!) goes on to Norwich and rear half is bookable through to Worksop. There is no through service from Worksop.

This one-off is shared with all station calls from Liverpool to Nottingham.

You used to be able to book Liverpool to Whitwell as a ‘direct’ service on that train and get an itinerary (it’s not a permitted route other than it being a direct train). Complications can arise when they short form that service of course. I posted a thread some time ago asking what people’s views were on the validity of your journey in this case. If you didn’t have an itinerary and the service was short formed you’d no longer be on a direct train etc.

From London Road to Hinchley Wood one can get two trains in the morning that stop at New Malden. There is no reverse services though, abet one can change at Surbtion at other times and mostly wait 20 minutes for another train to arrive to take them north.

Hazel Grove has one early morning EMT departure to Liverpool Lime Street but no southbound EMT calls.

Sundays only 12:23 (time when seen last November with 350407) Man Vic to Edinburgh, replacing the normal Man Air xx10, Picc xx26. No return equivalent.

Greater manchester.
Northern services from Southport mostly go via Rochdale & Todmorden to either Leeds or Blackburn. Other trains go via Oxford Rd to Alderley Edge. One train per day runs to Stalybridge, with no reverse working.

One per day Buxton to Manchester Victoria via the Ordsall Curve. No reverse working.

On Merseyrail's Wirral Line, almost every train around the Liverpool Loop religiously goes back onto the line from which it came at Hamilton Square (even if one or two do stop or start short at Hooton or Birkenhead Central). Except one per day Chester to Birkenhead North which swaps main branches at Birkenhead.
[EDIT] Pedants may note the last Ellesmere Port to Liverpool service goes around the Loop then out of service at Hamilton Square platform 3 (the WK / NB platform), rather than p.2 (for EP / CH).

For many years there used to be one train per day from Wigan North Western to Liverpool Lime St going all stations via Newton-le-Willows instead of St Helens Central, with no reverse working. This is no-longer a candidate since there are now 2 tpd WGN to LIV via Newton-le-Willows and a single train in the LIV to WGN direction.

There is an Ellesmere port evening service to Manchester Victoria with no return service- None that I have noticed anyway.

It's an error. Sometimes it appears on the screens and sometimes it doesn't. For some reason the rear portion is programmed in to divide rather than just form it's next working, presumably because it doesn't shunt. It's not mentioned in the printed timetable. In practice the passengers are kicked off when it splits and it's not at all unusual for a different unit to be used and the rear portion of 1L14 to disappear to the depot.

It's quite annoying because unless you happen to look at the station screens it doesn't appear in any of the staff or internal documentation so people will ask about it and you'll have no idea what they're on about.

Hedge End and Botley have one late evening GWR through service from Cardiff each day, but the opposite direction train is non-stop between Fareham and Eastleigh. Passenger calls were only added fairly recently and fill a long gap in the SWR service - but that gap isn't there anymore after the May changes as SWR have additional services from Waterloo...

I know of at least a couple of times when the train conductor has announced to passengers that part of the train is travelling to Worksop, and that they need to travel in those coaches for the stations to Worksop.

When I lived in Tamar Valley (nearest stop was Bere Ferrer's), there was one late evening service that continued from Plymouth through to Exeter St David's. I believe that still happens. In addition there was one train a day that goes from Gunnislake to Liskeard via Plymouth, turning around at Plymouth, much like Exmouth-Paignton trains do at St David's. I think there was (probably still is) a Liskeard-Gunnislake return as well.

Edit: just remembered that 2E12 from Penzance used to continue to Cardiff before it started using the Castle set, unusual both for a train from Cornwall and a single 150 unit that would normally just go PNZ-EXD and back.

There was also a Cardiff Central to Gunnislake service for a couple of months last year, and there currently is a through St James’ Park to Cardiff Central train (the one that used to run from Penzance)

There is also a Sundays only Weston-super-Mare to Weymouth train but no return .

Lincoln/Metheringham/Ruskington have a single through train to Heckington/Boston on Weekdays and Saturdays, which is the final departure of the day heading south from Lincoln.

Nothing in the opposite direction as it’s used to provide the first unit of the day from Boston to Nottingham.

That calls at both St Budeaux stations, which is a rarity. I don’t think a through fare exists. Although, in reality, you’d only undertake the journey for novelty value.

The through fare doesn't exist, which is a shame. I tried when I visited Ferry Road, but I was given a big error message by every ticketing site I used.

The EM 1352 Liverpool- Norwich is shown as dividing at Nottingham with a portion going all stations to Derby. Not sure there is a return working

The connection doesn't meet, change at Stoke. (xx35 VT or xx27 XC from Piccadilly both have a decent connection at Stoke.)

Congleton has an evening train to Bournemouth, but nothing from Bournemouth (Although I guess the morning train from Birmingham balances it.)

Saturday is not balanced with two evening Bournemouth services and only one from Birmingham in the morning. (And that's literally it for the foreseeable future!)

Your post has reminded me of the 7:39 from Farnham.

For Farnham, Aldershot, Ash Vale and Brookwood, they have a once a day service to:
Byfleet and New Haw
Esher
Hersham

This is in the up direction only.

For the stations, Weybridge and Walton-on Thames it's once a day Monday to Friday but more regular on Sundays so they don't count.

yeah, i have walked it quicker from Kidsgrove to Longport, rather than wait for the connection. I don't know what TOCs have against Longport. Quite a few houses within an easy walk. Local Beauty spot "Westport Lake" only a short walk away. It is next to A500 and the closest station to Newcastle Under Lyme, yet all bar EMT shun it, when the potential is large.

It also serves Middleport Pottery.

It may see some Sunday services from Northern Stoke-Blackpool as it was listed in the calling points on the track access application, however the two that have been added to RTT do not call.

No return as the 158 from Crewe in the morning goes to Eastcroft Depot after arriving in Nottingham. The same could be said for the 1452 from Liverpool which divides at Nottingham for Worksop

To reciprocate, your post has reminded me that there used to be a fairly regular service in the peak hours from Esher to Chertsey (and presumably on to Virginia Water and then maybe back to Waterloo). Does this still run ie is it still possible to travel from london to Addlestone/Chertsey via Surbiton?
(When I was a lad the regular half hourly daytime service was to/from Portsmouth and Southsea and Alton, splitting and joining at Woking).
