Does anything ever use the bay platform at Southampton Central. It doesn't look as rusty as it should if it was completely unused?

Used for stabling some trains, there's often a 450 in there. Not in passenger use though.

Bournemouth's bay platform is sort of hidden.

I don't think it provides access to the Sheffield line, so its usefulness is limited, paticularly given the Lincoln trains tend to go from 5. I once saw that my Sheffield train was displayed on the board as from 2, much to the bemusement of the traincrew when they arrived at the unit. A swift phonecall to the signaller followed by an ECS to 3b ensued!

Indeed, it is a normal overnight stabling point in the WTT. You need to be there between about 0130 and 0530 though, so most people would never see it!

12D at Leeds, northbound XC use it and when they're normally 4 car voyagers its a massive trek to them from almost every other connecting service. Never understood why they dont stop mid way up platform 12 similarly to TPE do at 15 and 16

Edit. Downgraded in June earlier this year. Previously it was permissible. Seems odd. The last service I can remember using the bay was around that time, just before the S+C renewals during some farce to provide an additional train along the coast.

Hooton has an unnumbered non-electrified platform which is only used very occasionally for excursion trains.

However it is far from hidden. It is the platform outside the ticket office and the only one which is accessible without using the lift or stairs.

The plaque in the lift says it is "Platform 0" but there is no sign on the platform to confirm this number.

Crewe could easily have a platform 13 if they took the fence down on platform 12.

And Preston has an r.e.s platform accessed by a subway which was used for specials the last time The Open was held at Lytham.

The old Bradford Exchange station used to have 10 platforms but only the central ones seemed to be used in its latter days.

The old Preston parcel platform has been used for passenger trains during past engineering works and platform 7 never seems to be used for passengers

Norwich platform 6 is a bit hidden if amount of pax on wrong train from 5 anything to go by. Stratford platform 10a also catches a few out every day.

I think that's partly because of the way that the south end of it curves away from the track - there's a potential falling risk.

Platform 3 at Shrewsbury is very visible from the other platforms, but to get to it you have to go through the subway, through the barriers, out into the forecourt and back in through a separate entrance.

There are still some booked workings into there, mainly ex-Durham Coast and to / from the Tyne Valley. The majority of traffic uses the other platforms on the island however.

Often used to stable a class 142 unit before it is fired up to work a shuttle to the Metrocentre usually (On those services that don’t work through from Morpeth). I can’t recall a time when platform 8 has been used for anything else (EDIT: Though, reading the post above, looks like it has)!

I'm surprised that anybody would think platforms 9 to 12 at Newcastle are "hidden". Fairly obvious from the footbridge and ticket gates on the concourse, really.

Also, the island platforms at Wakefield Kirkgate are a circuitous walk from civilisation at the moment, even more so than usual!
