Having spent many an hour at Shrewsbury a few years back whilst dating a lass who was studying at Aberystwyth, I was always intrigued by some of the stations on the Cambrian and HOW lines. Dyffryn Ardudwy and Broome in particular along with the already mentioned Sugar Loaf.

Dyffryn Ardudwy is a very nice place too - A cute village with a very nice beach, the station has a gates keeper too!

On the HoW lines, I also like the these station names: Bucknell, Pantyffynnon and Pontarddulais. I think Shrewsbury must get some of the best platform announcements in the UK, what with all the welsh named request stops on the Cambrian, Heart Of Wales and North Wales Coast lines!

I remember being told that, as a rule of thumb, if a Glasgow suburban station had a pleasant, twee-sounding name, it should be avoided... Whereas if it sounded a bit rough it was probably okay.

I've mentioned that on these forums before.

Summerston is particularly bad. Mount Florida isn't nice, but isn't terrible either.

My favourite station name has to be Fort Matilda. I have never been there, but it sounds great.
