Trivia; Station Names

We have had a number of threads relating to favourite and least favourite station based on various criteria. What I am asking what is peoples favourite station names just based on the name itself. Mine are "Falls of Cruachan" and "Bat and Ball". I know two totally different stations in two totally different locations, What are members' favourite stn names.:D

Falls of Cruachan and St Keyne Wishing Well Halt take some beating IMO. And if we're counting light rail, Besses o the Barn is a beauty, although I believe the actual location isn't quite as quaint as the name suggests!

6 Mile Bottom (sounds funny).
Rawtenstall (pronouced rotten stall).
King's Cross (sounds angry).
Waterloo (sounds like a disaster or toilet).
MediaCity UK (why the UK bit?).
IBM (sounds like a computer).
Long Eaton (as it's in Sawley).
Cockfosters (weird name).
Derby Road (because it's in Ipswich).
University (thinks it's the only one)
Are some of the worst.

The best are:
Phoenix Park (NET).
Bede (which has Latin signage).
Swansea.
Jewellery Quarter (W. Mids).
Thornton Abbey (has an Abbey next to it).
Birkenhead Park.
Port Sunlight (Merseyside).
Eccles (piece of cake).
Chorley (also a cake).
Duffield (Simpsons beer).
Quorn/don (sounds like fake meat).
Newark Castle.
Matkock Bath.
Dove Holes.

I agree with Flowery Field it sounds like a rural location like how Middlewood station is but in reality its a run down urban area of Greater Manchester but its still a nice name.

One of my favourite station names happens to be adjacent to one of my least favourite names on the same line:

- Daisy Hill (not as bucolic a location as it sounds, but not especially blighted either, just dull).
- Hag Fold (this locality is pretty much as bad as it sounds)

I also like:

- Box Hill & Westhumble (name epitomizes village station in England's green & pleasant land, with vicar cycling past etc.)

I have always liked the trio of Pontefracts: Tanshelf, Monkhill and the best of all in my view: Baghill.

MediaCityUK because it's the full name of the venue. IBM because it was named after the IBM factory (either that or some IBM offices) that used to be there.

Hatfield comes in to mind for me. A field of hats! Gotta love Llandwellongnamegoeshere as well.

I've always been a fan of Berry Brow... Not only a nice twee-sounding name, but also has a station code that refers to a lady built for comfort rather than speed!

Look like all the Hayes line stations are going to get a mention, so let's continue with West Wickham. Not to forget that Spike Milligan was always getting a laugh out of Catford, so Catford Bridge too.

Neasden too, but I prefer Perivale.

Turkey Street. I think it's simply a wonderful name!

Kempston Hardwick is another one. It sounds like a twee Agatha Christie character, and indeed I found out later that a local author used it as the name of the protagonist in a series of detective novels.

Actually, there's quite a few evocative town names along the southern bit of the West Coast Main Line; Leighton Buzzard, Hemel Hempstead, King's Langley, Cheddington...

Brigg station in Humberside is ironic as it's like the brig on a ship if you miss the last train on Saturday, you have to wait a week!

The northern half of Brum's Cross-City line does well with Gravelly Hill, Wylde Green and Four Oaks. Confusingly, the southern part has Northfield; it also has Kings Norton (sounds more rural than it really is) and Longbridge (another misnomer!).
