Trivia: Services that call at the same station twice

At one time, portions from Edinburgh combining with portions from Glasgow used to call twice at Carstairs.

I never did that particular journey, how did it work? Eburgh to Carstairs (set down pax in side platform) continue westwards out of station, set back onto rear of Glasgow-Euston train in main platform for second call?

There are a couple of Blackburn to Clitheroe trains that do a full loop via Vic and Bolton and Blackburn (again) before going to Clitheroe. Certainly adds a little time on!

Also valid on a Blackburn to Darwen single, and with break of journey allowed...

Edit: obviously you couldn't do the full loop, you'd need a return for that.

Various flavours of SE rounders from Cannon St will call at London Bridge twice in the same journey. Some may also call at Lewisham twice.

I presume there must be some on similar routes from London Charing Cross, that would call at Waterloo East & London Bridge twice too.?

Sort of. They're not shown as circular trains anymore- they all terminate at Glenrothes with Thornton- but in reality the train that has come through via Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath will "terminate" at Glenrothes and then immediately form a train back to Edinburgh via Kirkcaldy. And vice versa for 1tph.

That piece of information is contained within an 'Information' box, which the NRCoT has the following to say about:

We have included a number of ‘Information’ panels to help you understand the meaning of certain Conditions. Please note that these panels are not intended to have contractual effect and do not form part of our contract with you.

While I wouldn't be shocked if a TOC decided to prosecute a passenger for breaking their journey in such a manner, it wouldn't get very far.
