No. Allington's nearest station was at Sedgebrook a short distance further towards Nottingham.

Sleaford North and South Junctions are both quite some distance from Sleaford station and are the start of the chord lines to allow it to be served from the GN and GE Joint line.

The open country junction (ie not at a station) seems quite rare in this country. Any examples beyond Worting (west of Basingstoke) and Cogload (north east of Taunton).

On another thread, @The exile made the opposite comment: that compared to Germany it's surprising how many junctions we have without stations !

Not necessarily. Newbridge Junction near Edinburgh used to be called Bathgate Junction because the line to Bathgate left the main line there. The town of Bathgate is several miles away. Plenty of other examples in the past - Bo'ness Junction, Alloa Junction, Alyth Junction...

Although Alyth Junction was actually a station with a junction (well actually two junctions), the other two named are/were not.

Esholt Junction. Was removed when the lines from Apperley Junction (Leeds) and Guiseley Junction (Bradford) were singled and the junction moved to Guiseley station. Now reinstated, as there is a loop beyond Springs tunnel in the Leeds direction. Apperley and Guiseley Junctions are also some distance from Apperley Bridge and Shipley stations, respectively.

But just to clarify for the purposes of this thread, the junction is adjacent to the site of Ratho station anyway, where the settlement retains that name despite the station long since having closed (which is probably the subject of another thread!).

Crow Nest between Hindley and Westhoughyon never had a station as far as I know and is very much in open country. Again no station, but Skelton is in the Altrincham built-up area.

Mmmm. In my mind open country was over a mile from the nearest station.

Would suggest a guide if there’s a doubt would be if the junction had its own signal box that didn’t control anything in the station area / wasn’t named after the station.
