I wonder if I can EVER get on a Thameslink train at Peterborough, sit near the front of the 12-car train and NOT get some random bloke walk down the train and then Stop, Stare and 'tut' a few times at me - before walking back up the train???

Happens EVERY time I get a TL train South....:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
I have read this 3 times and still cant get why you would be tutted at ? Help me out!! :)

I wonder if the Scotrail management of Glasgow-Edinburgh, after its expensive electrification, know the trains are now slower than what their grandfathers achieved every 30 minutes with the 2x27 push-pull, 50 years ago in 1971.
But I wonder if the new trains will wear out so quickly?

I wonder if EMR’s 360s and 170s will ever be refurbished?

And at this rate: I wonder if the 196s will enter service this year?

I wonder if any normals ever understood that the two graffiti authors who created "50030 PLYMOUTH-EDINBURGH SHEER HELLRANCIDITY" on the wall of a Mk 1 bog were expressing opposite sentiments.

I wonder if a train manufacturer would ever create a modern train with all the up to date safety systems and PRM compliance requirements but with the comfort of the old trains.

I wonder if SWR will ever paint paint all their rolling stock in the new pale blue colour scheme. I'm sure one of their trains at Clapham Junction today was a mixture of THREE colour schemes.

I wonder if all TOCs have a “them and us” attitude between front line staff and control staff, or if it’s just my local TOC

I presume that it's because I'M sitting in the ONE seat near the front that THEY wanted to sit in....
Often seen folk walking through to the front of the train, presumably so they can be one of the first off at the final destination, but they sometimes don't realise that beyond the front most carriage, there's no more seats available, unless they are wanting to be sitting alongside the driver!

Other explanations are still possible!

I wonder if there is a more pleasant way to spend an hour on the network than enjoying the views of the Tamar valley on the train from Bere Alston to Gunnislake and back.

PS This is a brilliant thread.

You mean people try and open the cab door?

Certainly seen folk occasionally looking for seats beyond the frontmost ones in Coach A at the front of a busy Northbound Pendolino on the WCML. (Normally there's the bicycle storage space/ load space between the last seats A45-A48 and the actual driver's cab).

I wonder if there will ever be any trains as wonderful as 1st Gen DMUs - where you could see out of the front.

Just a little light-hearted thread, I think. Something to maybe make people smile. Start off your railway-related musing with the phrase "I wonder if..." and add them below.

I wonder if the people in that little corner of GWR-ness that is Leamington Spa know that their three-letter station code is LMS.

I wonder if … some TOCs are going to find themselves short of rolling stock in a couple of years, if they downsize their fleets now on the premise of Covid…

I’d say that one’s easy - dismay that “their” seat is taken. From experience of this route, for sure there’s some odd characters on parts of the GN route.

I’d imagine tuts are even more likely in declassified first.

I wonder if Northern will ever run a 6-car 323 without having to lock out coaches for part of the diagram?

I wonder if 800s or 802s will ever run without their diesel engines installed?

I accidently managed this in a 745 a few days ago when the cab door popped open as I left Norwich and stayed that way till Diss. I was disappointed no one behind me took the opportunity to enjoy the view.

I wonder if the 810s will live up to the high expectations set or if they’ll have the usual AT300 issues raised many a time on RF

I wonder if there were ever churns, a porter, a cat on a seat, at Chorlton cum Hardy and Chester-le-Street.
At Chorlton-cum-Hardy, for the 40+ years immediately prior to Metrolink conversion, quite possibly dead cats, old tin cans and discarded supermarket trolleys!

I wonder if Poole is the nearest station to London where the fastest rail journey to the capital takes at least 2 hours.
I make Poole 113.75 miles to Waterloo. Templecombe (Somerset) I make 112.75m. I cannot find a journey time from Templecombe to Waterloo under 2 hours 6 minutes.
