Hail All!
hock:

The reason that I mentioned A university in Sheffield - Thinking that at least two of us must've studied there at some point - Is because one of the Uni of Sheffield's buildings is the 20-floor high Arts Tower, built in the 1960's, and having a very well used Paternoster installed and still in use. 8)
The name Paternoster is derived from the first two words of the Lord's Prayer in Latin; Pater Noster (Our Father) and is so named because of the similarities between the cars on a Paternoster chain and the prayer beads on a Catholic Rosary.

Taking a minute or two to climb 18 floors? I can power up escalators with a far greater PTW ratio than an HST...But it still takes me a good couple of minutes just to go between platform and surface levels at Westminster LUL!Escalator?
Yup...Mojo's hit the nail on the head! For those not familiar with the design, a Paternoster Lift is a high-capacity form of lift that consists of an endless chain, to which a number of cars are attached. The system moves continuously and people board/alight from it whilst in motion, a bit like using a Travolator.I've got it! Its a Paternoster lift!![]()
