^ the date above suggests the changes will be from the 7th of September, I assume they cannot operate the new timetable until the 7th, feel free to correct me.

When was the last time Trent operated something for free? I’m sure it was the ZOOM back in 2015 (my dates maybe completely wrong here)

Can I count the days when if Trentbarton put a single decker on Red Arrow, you travelled free? I wonder if Arriva will target Red Arrow? After all they have Cross Country Trains, and Arriva buses pass the railway station.

It usually does.....Maybe tea and biscuits with the Traffic Commissioner for running an unauthorised service. Seen it before. But running it free is an option.

i remember getting a free zigzag whenever it was a spare… this was back when child zigzags were £2.50.. I’m only 21 but that makes me feel old hahah.

When did they ditch free ride Sunday? Assume it was during Covid?

You still get the odd time (coach or single decker) where you get the odd free ride. I can't see arriva targetting RA since its quite none stop so wouldn't really target many passengers especially since trent have a name with ra whereas arriva would start from nothing. Something like i4 or indigo maybe so

Arriva have nothing in Nottingham so I don’t think that would be wise.

However, when Trent cut the Spondonflyer the reputation for the company went down the pan, with only the Ilkeston flyer (won’t count the 9/9A as it’s now just a minibus) running through Spondon, I do believe that would be an alternative if Trent were to compete with other Derby services, which I’ve heard rumours that they apparently want to.

I meant Arriva using the train as part of the package, not a bus. How many bus passengers on the Red Arrow start their journey on an Arriva bus? Yes, Trentbarton do have a name. ;)

Again, Arriva have a train service from Derby to Nottingham. Who needs a bus? I could well see Arriva target other TB routes. You might end up with great value day tickets, connectivity and a serious modal shift. Must be a limit on how many TB buses fit in Meadow Road

Don't know for longer periods but I had a free trip on the villager last week as it was running late.

With the works in Burton when was it last on time. Looks like a nice diversion on the H1 this afternoon, via Ilkeston.. Don't recall seeing any social media messages about that.

I can understand why Arriva and Trent Barton are fighting each other over the X38 but why would Arriva target other established Trent Barton routes when so much of Derby doesn’t have a useful bus service.I know the Langley Country Park estate is now served by the Swift to and from Uttoxeter but I was always told the plan was for a service down Station Road to Tesco and then down Uttoxeter Road. Arriva could possibly alter the Mackworth service to run this way and open up a whole new load of journey opportunities without actually replicating an existing route. There are other areas that seem potentially much more attractive to either of Arriva and Trent Barton than them getting into a needlessly destructive battle on existing routes.

In other news, I was told last week that 101 - 106, which are spare from this coming Sunday, are heading for the X38.

Could be a venture they might try start in. New-ish name in a new area could try take on nct and ct4n.

In my opinion, using mango or even a zigzag, trent have more options for places to go in derby at quite a high frequency rate as well. Red arrow (which i do use quite frequently) is more of an advantage than using the train. I can walk around ten to fifteen minutes to a bus stop which is served by trentbarton even though arriva operate around 2 minutes away from one of the stops to about 5 which is just down the road. I only really get arriva on a sunday when the other route doesn't run either that or i walk around 20 minutes to a stop which is served by i4/indigo, or at night when i dont wanna walk after a long day. 5 pound on mango (around £8 before 9am i cant remember its been a while since ive traveled before 9am) to be able to travel from home to notts on red arrow, then the rest of my travelling with trent is free. Not something you really get with arriva with a child day ticket being £4.20 and an adult day ticket being £5.30. Which in my opinion for the area served isn't great value for money!

Yeah, look at yourbus, it targeted routes quite and offered cheap fares which i certainly took advantage of at times. If arriva went that way then i dont think it would work. I can't really see much else happening currently especially since there fleet is changing abit so they might wait until after new year before anything else.

I would agree with you, I cannot see much changing with either Arriva or Trent Barton’s routes in Derby as both operators have had long enough to do something new but have chosen not to do so. I can’t speak for Arriva but when was the last time Trent Barton introduced a completely new route in Derby? I’m guessing it was either The Royal to the hospital or the Harlequin to the Heatherton estate.

Have you ever seen a CT4N bus full? Other than medilink?

But once again, Trent Barton have dropped both the last trips on X38s, if Arriva has resources to add another bus & driver to the X38s. Atleast Arriva customers won’t have to spend around an hour trying to get back to Derby on a V1 or V3…

Arriva have introduced a good few routes in the past few years, the F1 for example.

There's good reason for trentbarton not to cover though. Arriva at the moment operate slightly later and if trentbarton covered their last couple of journeys there wouldn't be much passenger usage. Also with them not having rescources, they must have some as they were running 3 vehicles on the V3 a few minutes ago. After all, trentbarton are just running their service fully and just letting arriva pick up a few extra passengers as that would work better for them as they run later.

I noticed the Arriva 18.00 X38 left Burton about 18.20 in tandem with the Trentbarton 17.20.ex Burton. You can see how Arriva are trying to deliver the timetable, there may even have been a 4th bus today

But the F1 was after Yourbus started running on the 1/1A as well wasn't it.

For those seemingly wanting / predicting an all out bus war between Arriva and TB, Local Authorities now have the ability to set 'maximum frequencies' where head to head competition appears. This means that a specific corridor could have a maximum of ten buses an hour specified, however if an operator makes a timetable change or registration that would breach that limit and negotiations fail then the council can basically auction the ten slots with all existing service registrations cancelled.

this is what's happened in Leicester with some routes in the City the partnership here aggreed to cut competing services in exchange for full control of certain routes.

Is this implying that the B7s already on the X38 are being replaced by ADLs in the near future?
I didn’t think to ask that question so I don’t know but how many buses does the new improved Trent Barton X38 service need?

Mickleover branded Enviro 200MMC numbers 314 and 319 both on Meadow Road today.

Solo 480 will be transferring from Derby to Sutton today 22/08 too, it's a replacement for Versa 817.
And where is 817 going? Heading for refurbishment?

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

5, 4 mainly on the route and one will be having a break as far as i can tell
I thought you needed 4 buses to maintain a "every 20 minutes" service. So maybe "every 15 minutes" does need 5.

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

Enjoy it, it’s a shed .
Surprised they didn't offload Solos 491 or 492 instead.

Didn't the same thing happen in Oxford too? Users can use any bus of any operator.

I would have thought every other service round Ashbourne was tendered, and such work isn't really where Trentbarton go.

I mean, they could try run it at every 15 minutes with 4 busses but in my opinion one slight delay and then your break is messed up and then your even more delayed.

I believe so, in Leicester passengers can buy a Flexi Day/Week/4Week/12Month ticket for use on any operator in the City Zone except P&R services.
