The new X38 timetable is now on the TrentBarton website: X38 timetable
It shows a start date of Saturday 31st August.

The Derbyshire County Council website still lists the changes as starting on Saturday 7th September:

Looks interesting. From my quick glance at both, trent start their service earlier at 5 and arriva start theirs at 6.40/50 at burton and derby. Arriva run later with them running till 10pm from derby to burton and trent doing its last run from derby to burton to derby at 8pm. During sunday it looks like its pretty much a every 15 minute service during the day and during the start / end runs they both operate at the same times.

I believe so, in Leicester passengers can buy a Flexi Day/Week/4Week/12Month ticket for use on any operator in the City Zone except P&R services.

Great idea..More people on less buses. Are they still doing that tap on, tap off with the separate tap off reader?

I mean, they could try run it at every 15 minutes with 4 busses but in my opinion one slight delay and then your break is messed up and then your even more delayed.

Can't have drivers breaks encroached. If it was the railway, if a manager spoke to you, you could start your break again.

@Trainman40083 I took it to Langley Mill for refurbishment a few months back so not sure where Versa 817 will end up.

I recall 817 and 818 Versa were reported in Trentbarton bright red, but not reported since.

Possibly, im going to try head down on the 31st and see what happens. Arugeably a good start for trent though since passengers might like a sight of a company willing to give free rides over one who will be trying to take as much profit as it can which arriva tends to do.

That might teach Trentbarton to run services properly in future!. Running free every 15mins for 7 days will hurt their pockets a bit..

Well as I understand it from bus industry contacts, the registration letter authorising the service makes it VERY clear what will happen. Hey, the Arriva bus is only £2 anyway. Can't even get a cup of coffee for that. Maybe all the buses will be PACKED

I can't see it being that packed really. Yes its a saturday but doesn't mean all of a sudden everyone will have an urge to go burton upon trent. When i went on trents runs last week just before 10am they were lightly loaded at most

No I can't, except well...When the car park issues at the Royal bite, I can see them busy..Was talking to someone only the other day, she missed her appointment at the Royal cos she could not get in the car park.

Maybe, if theres a bus passengers might follow. There is already the royal derby, villager and mickleover as well as x38 which do serve the hospital though just from wellglades side. Arriva operate the 5 there as well currently (and of course the x38), so its not like arriva haven't had the connection there before

I get the impression one of the Arriva 5 routes is going less frequent. Possible the Arriva X38 might impact the Royal I guess, depending where passengers connect.

Yeah it is. I would still say in comparision, if a passenger is going to get on a bus to go royal, they would of used one of the current ones. I doubt x38 would make much of a difference at times for passengers to royal only maybe workers, who i have seen getting on mickleover at times anyway even with the x38 close

But the people who work at the hospital work there several days a week. Say they live in alvaston, they will soon be able to change buses at the bus station to get to work, using just one ticket. Are Arriva actually connecting Derby?

The stops near the hospital are often very busy when I've been past. Worth remembering that the mickleover service, and royal have both been cut back in recent years due to operational difficulties rather than lack of demand.

Trent arguably connect derby up alot more than arriva does. Trent goes into Belper, Mickleover, Heatherton, Ilkeston, Borrowash, Spondon and part of chaddesden which are just a few. All of which could benefit from using x38 on Trents side. Arriva on the other hand operate to Sinfin, Alvaston, Chellaston, Littleover, Mackworth and Chaddesden/Oakwood. Which really isn't connecting many places compared to how many Trent connect, especially since not everyone would even use a Arriva ticket to complete all their travels and might just get whatever company they prefer for each leg of the journey.

I'm sure the increased skylink Derby service has impacted Arrivas Alvaston services, and the "swift" route has probably gained some custom at the expense of Arriva route 8.

It is a shame Trent did not register their service in between arrivas, to create a 10 minute frequency. That may have generated more custom, with people perhaps choosing it over the train.

They probably wanted to have some actual competition on the route rather than just avoiding contact with any of arrivas busses at any of the stops.

It is also interesting that Trent are using 3 buses on a Sunday for a 30 minute service, whereas at the moment they use 1 bus for an hourly service.

Most routes have a really long break at one of the terminus on a sunday so probably what they are replicating here. Kinch 9 has a 40 minute break at broadmarsh, swift has a decent length break in derby, just to name a few. Helps keep the route on time and be ready for the next run especially if there's something like a vehicle fault.

Allestree, villager, mickleovers do not have lengthy layovers.

Red arrow doesn't either. The threes do as well as the nines if i remember correctly have it in mansfields.

That's where the drivers have their breaks on the nines and threes on Sundays, they keep the same bus all day (barring 2 threes shifts)

Oh a few roadworks in Burton and all the buses in Burton will be X38s.

I've been informed that Mango ADLs 326/327 have transferred from Derby to Langley Mill, and 328/329 have gone the other way. Not sure why as all four vehicles are exactly the same so it seems a bit pointless to randomly swap vehicles around
