According to an ex-Kinchbus driver pal of mine, it was all part of a customer survey, apparently passengers preferred to be able to see the driver.

Also you'll notice that the Ticketer machines Wellglade have, the card scanner unit and the ticket printer are on opposite sides to what is standard elsewhere with other operators. Apparently the driver handing the ticket to the customer instead of the customer taking it from the machine is better customer service?

I was fascinated to note that Comet branded Volvo 748 had its latest MOT test at Arriva Midlands and that bus had clocked up over 1 million miles . No wonder it is "tired". But do you really want Enviro 200MMCs on it? But as you drive them, did they ever fix those roof panels near the front, that looked like they were going to fall off and hit someone?

Maybe it depends upon how many times someone opens the windows. Aircon doesn't work too well with windows open....

Most if not all the drivers do not want ADLs on the route as we dont think they would last very long with how bad some of the roads are on te route plus the awful amount of steering lock you get on them but at the end of the day we will drive what we get given. Those panels are secure even they dont look like it.

That roof panel always looked like it would come down and smack you in the face. Let's say I didn't stand under it. So, if the drivers all think that, it will be ADLs then. After all, I don't see anything else. They might disappear in a pothole at Alfreton bus station.

Have we even seen an 11.8M 6 Cylinder ADL on the comet at all?

Not sure that there is such an ADL to use on the Comet service from Derby...A pink Mickleover may have done, shorter 269 has done. I thought ADL and rattles were always used in the same phrase. Comet service will be fine of they get the 20 plate Skylink Enviros in a couple of years

It nearly had 145 the other week, but i don't think so.

I was a fire warden for 25 years. Every year there was training, including tackling all sorts of fires. Oil fires were quite scary. It was drummed in, get people safe, property can be replaced. We learned to keep an eye on likely causes. Presume ex car park didn't burn.

From what I saw as I just drove past (and I didn't get a very good look) it looked alright, probably at most would be slightly burned

In Nottingham we don't have that problem- routes are so much more reliable with ADLs compared to Volvos.

Maybe that is because the routes are more profitable, there are spare buses available between the peaks allowing time for planned /unplanned maintenance

Wow. Four buses on the Allestree today, with Enviro 200MMC number 269 helping out, whilst sister 265 is off. Personally, I thought it sounded odd, when it passed me twice, on my way back from lunch.

I prefer mango, it gives me visuals that it's working and not over charging when with a tap on tap off I would be worried its charging me two times

You can easily add discounts so anyone can use it and know your getting the best fare. Also, outside of the £2 fare cap its around 10% cheaper I believe

The strange thing about the Mango app, is that all my friends that were using it, ditched it. The only one that still has it reverted to cash fares, both £2 and for zigzag. Clearly it wasn't for everyone, in the same way that self service tills aren't.

In the days of the Mango card, which I think ran for 10 years, not once did I get overcharged.

Can't help but wonder how many people walked away when they introduced the app. The clever thing about it, was they would have done it under cover of COVID, and maybe, took the money in their account when the company was getting significantly less revenue, when passenger numbers were on the floor. I would think more people paying £2 cash, may well have affected cash in the bank.

Yes indeed. I said that there was 6 contracts, so four were branded routes, so clearly there had to be both red and Mango spares.
