Malton is only around a mile furter than Otley is from Tockwith. I would expect Connexions would jump at the chance to have a go at Coastliner and also it could attract York Pullman or even First York
Connexions’ lack of lates or sundays probably rules them out

FY won’t be going for any extra (tendered, relatively low-profit) work for a while, I imagine

The electric Solos were withdrawn as they did not meet necessary covid social distancing for the number of passengers carried and with the reduced timetable the loadings today can be heavy on some workings. The old 930 arrival at Harrogate was always pretty full when I saw it and the 1100 from Pateley Bridge looked pretty well loaded a couple of weeks back (maybe assisted by the £2 fare) as it neared Killinghall. The Solos are now with The Big Lemon in Brighton. Photos of them on Flickr

and remain electric.

Cheers for the info.

On the subject of the former Transdev fleet, Volvo B10BLE 1063 (Y163 HRN) which was new to Burnley and Pendle for the Mainline services back in 2001 and latterly with Reliance has entered preservation. Good example too as it still has it's still very original, the interior and headlights haven't been messed with.

I agree, it seems likely that TLC will probably regain most of the services rather than Connexionsbuses. Although I could see Connexionsbuses running the 966 and maybe the 948 since they don't run particularly early/late

I can see the lack of schooltime services being a problem if Connexionsbuses was to take the 962/DASH tenders as this would stop a large number of people using them collectively for work/school.
And as I've said before, similarly to what you've just said, it would be impractical for them to run the 962. This is since once the 962 sees the service improvements funded by the housing development in Burley-In-Wharfedale it will be running from early til late 7 days a week every 30 minutes, if the agreed travel plan stays the same.

I sure hope A&A doesn't take any of the services, given their current track record with the 30 in Horsforth. Although that would be unlikely to happen as their license has been curtailed meaning they probably won't have the capacity to run them even if they wanted to...

Go Ahead could bid and run dead or with positioning extras from Scarborough to Malton, Reliance too could bid and ran dead from Wiggington to Malton. These are the only two other operators who could run from the Malton end unless Arriva North East ran a couple of commercial journeys from/to Whitby to interwork with the tendered three a day and operated out of Loftus.

Loftus depot closed years ago. Whitby is now an outstation of Redcar. Presumably they could increase the allocation of Whitby by a couple of vehicles and do an early morning and late evening trip which would be better for the people of Whitby.

Loftus depot closed in early 2009!

Sorry but I simply can't see anything other than Transdev getting this*. A tendered bolt-on to the existing service. This tender is likely to cover Pickering to Whitby? That means the dead mileage from Tockwith is 35 miles, as opposed to 9 miles from Malton.

The * is relating to existing bus operators. The other alternative is that yet another NYCC welfare minibus is sent out in the off peak (Mon - Fri) with no school journeys to worry about.

Just seen this news article, Transdev have gained planning permission to rebuild the newly acquired ex York Pullman depot in Rawcliffe as the Hospital Fields Road depot is being disposed of, since a new housing development is going to be built on the site if everything goes to plan:

A planned relocation of a city bus depot can take place now that new buildings linked to the scheme have been approved.

City of York Council has approved the development after agreeing to a change of use for the site by the outer ring road last Spring.

The site concerns Shipton Road in Rawcliffe, which was previously used as a vehicle maintenance and storage area for the York Pullman Bus Company.

Transdev Blazefield Limited can now construct a two-storey building with associated parking, bus washing area, fuel and oil storage, lighting and temporary structure.

The maintenance and office building will form part of the forthcoming bus depot, with the temporary structure allowing maintenance to continue on the site, while the new buildings are erected.

Previously, the premises were used for vehicle maintenance and storage and these buildings have been demolished to allow the new depot to be built.

A report by council planning staff says the change of use approval and the consent for the new buildings will be implemented together by Transdev Blazefield.

Rawcliffe Parish Council has no objection to the scheme but said the temporary building must be replaced with a permanent building within two years of work starting on the site.

The council also received no submissions on the application from the public.

Council planners said the site is in the Green Belt, but contains much hardstanding and the main planning issue is impact of the openness of the new building compared to the current buildings.

At present there are a 390m2 buildings and a smaller 110m2 building, 6m high, but they would be replaced by a single building of 477m2 8.5m high.

Um.. have they already done that before getting permission, if not seems a but dumb to relocate and then demolish and rebuild and if so where will the buses go whilst the works are going on.

Believe they've already moved into the existing buildings, this will be planning permission so they can rebuild/add to what's already there I'm guessing.

Agree. Realistically are there actually any other operators that'd be able to take on the service? I don't think any of the smaller independents in the area have anything in their fleets that'd be up to running the service? Well used second hand buses would struggle I imagine. Plus if it needs to be interworked with school services that can cause a messy timetable too.

I assume that there will be buses stored on the site whilst work takes place, hence the mention of a temporary building whilst the construction work is being carried out, since I would assume the scale of the works is unlikely to take up the entire depot space.

"with the temporary structure allowing maintenance to continue on the site, while the new buildings are erected."

The tweets by Alex shows a clear newly resurfaced site with a newly built modern basic maintenance garage at the back of the site

This is apparently temporary and a proper brick building is what they’ve had approval for, which is located at the front of the site.I’ve just had a look at the plans, and it seems like quite a nice facility with a 3 bay workshop, offices, meeting rooms, showers, canteen etc

Only down side seems to be that it’s right next door to the sewerage works!

North Yorkshire County Council might try and run it with a minibus a couple of times a day.

I didn't say it would work well.
North Yorkshire wouldn't be concerned about that either - they're not very interested in providing bus services for their population. A minibus will be deemed sufficient and if anyone is left behind, never mind, it's not their problem.
Where I reside is on the former 409 route between Doncaster and Pontefract. Post October 2022 each council area has dealt with their problem, and the cross boundary part of the route is severed. No prospect of any replacement either.

Thats the trouble with councils getting involved in public transport. Far too parochial.

I was surprised to see they still have some of the old open top buses for the York Sightseeing. I thought the Enviro 400 were meant to replace these?

Those were bought recently as they are Euro 6, they aren't the old buses, they just have the same Plaxton President bodywork

It isn’t a multiple ‘they’, there is one bus - Fleet number 4007

I don’t think it sees much use, as it’s the 7th open top in the fleet and the summer PVR is 4

I see. Any idea on the age please?
It dates from 2001 but being ex London it’s probably Euro 6

I think the fact it’s is full open top, rather than partial like the enviros comes in useful for private hire work like parades

Is it not 6 when it goes every 10 mins in high summer? Admittedly it’s a very short season at 6 but y’know

I’ve just had a look at last summer’s leaflet and it only mentions every 15 mins

I think the every 10 was a casualty of COVID and the staff shortages
