Don't think it matters really pal.......as far as I'm aware it's more to do with content.......I can't really say for sure as I was an internal applicant when I got my job and only had to do a personal statement.

As far as I can remember it wasn't war and peace though, just enough to make sure all the "buzz words/phrases" were in there.

They tend to be quite strict over things like that mate......it's one of the many things they use to wittle down the number of applicants at the sifting stage, especially given the fatigue index thing.

If you're only just outside the catchment area it may well be worth giving them a ring to see if there is any discretion there.....worst thing that they can say is no.

hope not im 18 miles away ish been on the railway 15 years and never seen an opportunity come up before (they get took down so quick).

Hoping this time i will finally get what I want! applied for gaurd twice and failed in interview (told didnt go inot enough detail)

Yes i agree, i've done 12 years and getting the train drivers job is very difficult. Just have to keep trying!

Wouldn't surprise me mate......suppose it depends on the number of applicants etc, if they have the usual thousands I suppose they could use anything to whittle it down.

The only thing that'd concern me is the application form is obviously a major part of the recruitment process and if you don't follow what's requested of you on there I suppose it's as good a reason as any for them not to process it any further.

I could be wrong though I'm far from an expert just what I've picked up from speaking to people over the years.

Hi Colin, I have just noticed your comment and would love to ask you a question, I applied last August for the trainee train driver position for Coventry and leamington spa, I have passed all assessments and interviews, I have had my medical today and passed everything just awaiting the results of the drug test which will come back clear. I was wondering how the process after medical works? How long does it take from medical to job offer and signing of contracts? I'm aware there is still a crb and references to do but wondered if these come after the job offer? Really appreciate any help thank you in advance

Hi all I noticed this thread and all I can say is good luck to you all who have applied for the Driver vacancy it's very hard work and a lot to take in.
I know that there is currently 2 trainees on the handling stage of the course so they won't have much longer to go before being productive (I'm one of them)!! there is one guy waiting for an instructor he should start the handling stage early next month and there is also 2 trainee's who are currently at the Academy I believe it'll be around late September before they come to Coventry for the Handling stage.
And the recent vacancy that was advertised was I believe for 4 positions (I know one position is being filled internally so I'm told) I don't have any further info on course dates as yet.
And if any of you have being given a start date or a letter inviting you for a medical then well done now the hard work starts if you have any questions then please ask away I'll try and answer the best I can.

You're the guy that kicked up a fuss with the union and got a rep to stick his neck out to get you on the course, aren't you?? I'm only saying for your benefit, the company DO look on here to see who's saying what about them.

I still haven't heard either way but I am outside of the 25 miles. I'm at the medical stage with another TOC so I'd have to back out if was made an offer, I just find it odd I wasn't outright rejected. :-?
