In the acceptance email they said they'd give details on the next stage in due course, so I don't have to accept an invite until then as far as I'm aware. Anyone else had an acceptance email?

Hi Guys, Long story short but I have had a nightmare in my quest to work for LM as it seems like the universe just works against me.

I applied for the trainee Train driver position at Coventry and got offered an assessment last week. Unfortunately last week my wife was kicked in the head by a horse and I was looking my youngest and visiting her whist she was ill in hospital missing the email. I read the email on Friday and the Assessment schedule on the website was not visible so I called them today where they nicely said they would put me through on the next cohort of assessments which they are having in a few weeks.

Questions I have- Does anyone know how long between the first group of acceptances they wait until they notify the second group?

My online portal seems to show the application is closed. HR said it is on hold however I am worried that they may forget to invite me, do you think I should call them again to discuss this? I previously got through for a shunting position after passing my assessments however due to a clerical error LM did not send me the email with my interview date on so I am very worried that this may happen again.

Any ideas or suggestions would be really appreciated. I am absolutely gutted at present and just want to make sure I do all I can to get to that assessment as this is my dream job.

London Midland have told me there are no assessment dates set yet and they will contact me when there is, so I suppose for those who have been accepted the only thing we need to do is await contact from London midland on the next stage.

Got my email didn't make it apparently I live out of the 25 mile zone even though I live 24 miles away (longest route) and 22.5 (shortest)

Plastictaffy, as you clearly know Colin, then why don't you talk about this gossip to him directly rather than post it on a board? He is just trying to help others. Surely you could "advise" him by sending him a pm.

This 'rule' does NOT exist. No agreement has been signed between LM and any trade union - don't let them tell you that is the case. RMT say there MAY be an agreement for thirty miles, but the 25 mile rule does not exist. It has not been agreed, it's just LM trying to move the goalposts. They also don't say if that is as the crow flies, or to drive in, or if that is on the train. By train I make it, as the crow flies I make it comfortably, but by road it is 28 miles.

Do they need an agreement with the RMT about it? Surely it is up to LM how they sift applications? I agree in some respect it is nonsense. If I was commuting 30 miles or 5 miles to LM at Birmingham how would that make me more or less likely to leave to join XC or Chiltern or whoever?

Indeed it is, they can sift them how they please, but, when questioned, I was told it's an agreement they've allegedly made with ASLE&F and the RMT.
