Hi guys,

I got a nice little envelope through the post this weekend and will be attending on the 30th
Only downside is I finish work at 9.20pm the night before and have to drive up from sunny Southend on sea but I really want this job !!!

Anyone have any info on the nearest depot to me ?

Good luck guys

I haven't heard anything back either, I ticked NO in the willing to relocate box hoping there would be some positions at Earles sidings.

I am fortunate to have a career in the railway industry already, I live in a beautiful area in the high peak and my mrs has a place at university in Manchester. Relocation isn't for me at the moment so I doubt I will hear anything back.

Good luck to everyone else who applied.

You should have just applied, ticked all the boxes, said you would relocate, see how you got on in the tests, and then took it from there, do a few month and then there is always the compassionate move back home! ;)

Got an invite to assessment too.

About the additional test paperwork they sent, does anybody who knows the internals who did the assessment know if they got asked these things or was it just the other booklet.

Also does anyone know if the structured interview is also on the initial stage assessment day or is this the same as the 'criterion based' interview they mention in the letter and will take place at another time in september.

Good luck to all applying.

Anybody ?

Voicemail from HH this afternoon (I was playing golf at the time) saying that as I've already passed GBT, TRP 1&2 and MT 4.1, no need to attend on the 28th, straight to CBI (I assume the reactions test will be on the same day).

Which was top news, because two of my colleagues are already off that day so it would have been a real struggle to have got the day off myself (although I'd have managed it somehow, would have just had to owe a few favours).

Ok, so from the above it seems the CBI won't be on the first session, but does that mean the structure interview will be ?

Well done! I would brush up on interview skills, the majority of the internals failed this part,it was quite hard,HR and a trained psychologist asking the most ridiculous questions, but at least your getting there. And if most of the other candidates bomb out at the other tests then your laughing matey!

Cheers for that. I am fortunate in that I have a lot of experiences in all of the examples required, I'll go over these in the run up to the interview and hopefully make a decent fist of it. I'm also lucky that I'm very calm under pressure so I don't expect to get too flustered by a grilling. Here's hoping, eh?

Looks like i have dipped out unless they are recruiting in tranches. Could anyone point me in the direction of a definitive list of Railway companies ?

Well I've been watching the post like a hawk, these past few weeks. Nothing yet. Starting to think its nothings going to come. Well good luck to all who have received letters. Hope it all goes well! I'll just have to keep trying.

It took me 4 completely different approaches to writing applications before I found the right method of writing to get noticed. It's a tough nut to crack as the competition is very good, but there are enough words of wisdom splattered on these walls to point you in the right direction. What I did was to be clear and concise, opting for eloquent quality of answer over sheer quantity of drivel... Don't be fooled into thinking that you've got to hit the word limit on every answer to every question! I did just that for an FTPE application earlier this year and got dumped in the First sift (intentional pun ). Hope the postie delivers you some good news soon. LB

So out of curiosity does anybody know how the heavy haul assessment days will run? Are the interviews on the same day as the tests? And which order will the tests be sat? Just trying to work out if all assessment days are the same or if they differ from campany to company.

Thanks for the encouragement Lincoln. I'm not giving up, I know this is what I want to do and will keep on trying.

I have also found this forum extremely helpful and a lot of the writers knowledgeable.

However I'm sure I'm not the only one or the first one to feel a little disappointed after application seeing people on here getting on the next stage and we still haven't received a letter or email.

I'm still waiting on application for the driver position with Northern at the moment that closed a week ago so am standing a chance with that one. I am also more confident with my application as I have amended it so I have covered the competencies as well as the requirement in the job description. I should at least get interview and first stage of assessment (fingers crossed!)

I am not sure if this has been asked already but does anyone know where the vacancies are? I looked on the HH section of the website and there are loads of locations all around the country. Under the Aggregates list it shows a location in Marks Tey which is very close to me, however, I am assuming that jobs aren't available in every location?

Does anyone know exactly what tests we will be asked to sit on the upcoming assessment day?

The assessment pack welcome note just says the first part of the selection will involve a pre-screen and will be approx 2 hours.

The short answer is I really have not got a clue.

The long answer is I am expecting a Group Bourdon, TRP parts 1 and 2 and a Mechanical Comprehension test at the least. Contrary to what I may have expressed earlier, I would not be surprised if they threw in an rWCE for good measure. Anything that does not involve a one to one session or even a computer terminal due to the numbers involved.

I personally am practising everything.

If they are going to be avoiding use of computer terminals, how would the do the reaction tests ?

So can we safely say the CBI's won't be until the stage after this ?

If there are no computer terminals, I'd guess the reaction test would come at the next stage.

As DunfordBridge says, it makes sense that due to the amount of applicants taking the test, spread over at least 3 days, there wouldn't be enough time for the CBI which by all accounts can take 90min - 2hours for one applicant alone. Still wise to keep practising on all areas though.

pleased to hear the CBI is not on day one. More time to do research for the questions.

Anybody know if the group bourdon computer based? or do you use pen and paper ?

I'm possibly interpreting the bumf I was sent wrongly, but whilst it does state ' ... about 2 hrs ... ' for the overall process (I'm due in Crewe this Weds for FLHH) the info pack does refer to an interview.

On one of the pages (I forget which) it suggests what tests would be on the day, including Bourdon, sound/light test, mechanical and recall, along with an Q&A based upon the answers you give to a question along the ' ... tell me about a time you ...' format.

I might be interpreting this wrongly but that's what it looks like to me.

that's why i asked in here... the prep material says about interview questions but 2 hours to do all the tests and an interview seems a little bit short.
