The rWCE is the railway Written Communication Exercise. From what it says in the practice material, you listen twice to a passage about a fictional rail mishap during which time, you takes notes. Afterwards, you write a brief report. There is also another part where you have to read a passage and fill out a form based on the contents of the passage.
There is also an rVCE, the difference being that instead of writing a report, you have to give a verbal interpretation of the events. It is important to be concise yet include all the safety-critical information not to mention stuff like marker codes, headcodes, time in the twenty-four hour clock; etc. I am sure that there will be some useful information in the RSSB rule book about effective railway communication.
I am not expecting an rVCE at the Freightliner stage 1 do as I cannot visualise a line-up of applicants all chanting out their interpretation in front of the assessor at the same time, time constraints, etc.
I am not actually aware of any companies that make use of the two exercises but thereagain, I have not been to a driver assessment in ten years.
