I thought I'd done a good application in general but I haven't heard anything. I put I wouldn't relocate which I guess in hindsight was a mistake but I thought being in a central location near to the ecml and the midlands lines it perhaps wouldn't have been necessary anyway. It's a shame you cant get any feedback but I understand its not possible due to the number of applications.

Yeah you really should have said you would relocate, gets you to the assessment stage at least, and could be an interview. when you get offered the job and they tell you which depot your allocated, it's then you can decide if its for you. You never know you could have had a depot within driving distance.

I had to answer No to the 'clean driving license' due to 3 points and an almost run out DR10...I haven't heard anything, nor think I will, because of this.

I've only just found this post through doing a bit more research into FL. I'm a conductor with London midland at the moment and have the testing in Crewe on Thursday 29th August. Luckily it's my day off.
Looking forward to it though I am sceptical about the mechanical test. Learning a lot about the job already just wondering whether the other half will mind me relocating for a few years. Might just have to take em with me lol.

I said I would relocate, have a clean driving license, pretty certain I did well on the mechanical test, had the application proof-read and haven't had anything through the post either, so who knows!!!

I also have not heard and suspect it is due to answering that I do not have a clean driving licence. Stupidly in the section on the application where you could enter details that would help your application I did not explain that I have only 3 points which were for use of a mobile while driving (the annoying thing was I only answered my mobile to say I can't talk as I am driving). Guess I need to put this one down to experience

I contacted their personnel today and asked a few questions about the assessment process...

One of the packs i received is marked "Additional tests". There is a list of four tests with tick boxes next to each, and they say that I may be asked to sit those tests that are ticked, and that I will not have to complete unticked tests as part of the train driver assessment process. On my copy, none of the tests are ticked, so that would imply that I won't have to sit any of these additional tests, but I can't help thinking that at least one of these tests should be ticked! Did anyone else receive this item, and were any of the tests ticked?

It looks like none of the "additional tests" boxes are ticked on any of the packs sent out, and I was told to practice all of the tests.

I asked this question as well. i was told that hey're waiting for an answer to this from their head office as to whether they can accept recent passes.

Also waiting to see if I have to sit these as have a valid pass from FGW from April so asked the question and awaiting the reply.

Incidentally, had no boxes ticked but may see some of you on Aug 30th if we do have to sit them

He is adamant that once you get the job, you could be posted anywhere that there are driver vacancies, and that could mean the whole country. Hopefully common sense would prevail ,and you would be located to a depot near where you live, but sadly on the railway this is not the case. So be prepared for an upheaval if needed

I'm from west mids , passed the online test for this vacancy ,I have also passed tests for guard vacancy with l'm and on waiting list , this job appeals to me much more I have yet to receive anything in post though

Thanks for your post. If I were successful, I'd be disappointed if I didn't get a place at my nearest depot (Doncaster), as this is the only job I've seen (since starting to apply) with a depot near enough that won't need me to relocate.

Do you know when they'd decide where you'd be posted? I'd guess it would be around when you pass out...

I'm 53, was very pleased to be invited. Also am on hold after interview for XC TM job at the moment, so I don't think age is a barrier against selection. It might have a bearing when trying to get good Assesment results up against younger candidates though ……

I would think that the location you would be based at eventually would be made clear at the beginning of the contract. Many people would need substantial notice to be able to move to a different location, even if they said they were willing to do it.

I would hope that any HR department would try (until the first hurdle, of course) and accommodate people until locations were full.
