To them that's what it means but to rail staff (if I'm reading them correctly) that signal in railway terms actually means 'create a vacuum' hence technically it's a strange signal to give to a driver especially when most stock is air braked.

That is so embarassing, I could hardly watch it! I don't know what i would be thinking if I were in that cab doing 125mph and seeing that coming up on me. I wouldn't feel comfortable lets put it like that
Same, hence I guess why the approaching trains often given them loads of 'tonez' it isn't because the driver is 'cool' it's because the driver is telling them to "move the flip out of the way".

Go stand on the hard shoulder of a motorway at the same distance and film trucks going past at half the speed, see how long you last before you get removed/arrested. Behaviour like this is irresponsible, stupid and indefensible.
Harsh? Try working on platforms where you have a duty of care and have to try to contain idiots like this, trains cannot get out of the way, they are coming through no matter what.

Just because there isn't a train on the CIS boards, doesn't mean there isn't one coming through.

Exactly what I explained to a nutter who was hell-bent on retrieving her mobile phone from the four foot when I was on a school trip a few years back...luckily a teacher absolutely b*******d her and she left the platform in tears

These people are not immature, they are worse. They really need to be sectioned under the Mental Health Act. Have they never seen a woman driving a train before? My God ive seen women driving trains since i started on the railway in 1980. If i was the company that owns that station i would make sure staff are on duty just to make sure these lunatics dont do this kind of stupidness. Perhaps they ought to see what is left of a human body after its been it at 125mph.

You do have to wonder about the mentality of these idiots... common sense obviously has gone out of the window and they have no thought for the drivers they are affecting by standing so close to the platform edge. I wonder what IanPooleTrains thinks of his friends now?

Agreed! Probably because it's a small station and probably not manned so it would be up to control and drivers/guards to liaise with the BTP.
I'm a young person and frankly I find that lot in the video embarassing, I have looked through some more "DC" vids, the filming is OK but every time they talk it's immature and embarassing! Especially when they are trying to "create vacuum"...idiots!!!

This just says it all really and I get asked why I do not have the time of day for for some entusiasts - to who ever is thinking of doing this I went past Kings Sutton at 90mph with a pleb so close to the edge I firstly thought he was going to jump then realised he was a spotter - I had to look back and take my eye off the track to make sure he hadn't been sucked under the train and I have never forgot it even today and this was 3 years ago. If you look at the video of when the train is approaching near the beginning on the opposite platform how close these idiots are from the edge if a train had ben coming the other way it could have been a nasty situation - not for the dead enthusiasts but the driver. Looking at this I think you should all start policing this if you want to continue with your hobby or you WILL all be banned from the stations for photographing!!!! No threats but promises.

I do not do the chain pulling thing very much, sometimes it works, but I only do it if I'm trying to film something interesting. I do like a bit of 'tonez' and 'thrash', but I agree there comes a point where it gets stupid.
As for youtube, I would never have met many of my newfound friends in this hobby, I was 12 or 13 when I started, lost and confused and wanting to see if there was anybody like me, and 3 years later I have a hell of a lot more confidence in sharing my interest.
The good guys, I like to think, of the younger youtube generation include the ones like me, filming special workings, or freight locations in small groups, or alone. Not taking numbers, but taking an interest to an extent in the workings and ins-and-outs.
Then the idiots, like DelticT**t, 2TEG, 365Lance, and those who continue to obsess and 'froth' over continouous HST, 66 and unit horns at high speed. The worst gangs are Hadley Wood, with Deltic Matt and that idle bunch, Northallerton and Cholsey, with various people frothing over FGW Hst horns and Voyagers. Their ethic is simple: Waving = Horns = Laughs = ***MEGA RARE MILLION TONE HORN HADLEY WODD TONEEZZZ*** = Youtube Hits.
Back to the topic title, these guys present I nice friendly face to he drivers annoyingly, as they only see them for a short time. If it was for any longer, they would be ignored.
I hope you all can see the youtube railway videograhy community in a better light, and realise it is a minority.
