Viewing the comments they all seem to be supporting them, so I thought I'd comment and tell them my own thoughts...

Looking at the comments on that video, the user: rachaelmatt seems to be a bit of an idiot really... mind you there is at least one in every village. The comments about the 390s at Milton Keynes is laughable as well.

The top comments (top two at least) are in support of the driver and so they should be as well

I didn't comment on that video I commented on the video with the idiots flailing and getting excited over HSTs.

I think the driver spoke for everyone in the video anyway! :)

My first thoughts were similar, but somewhat more offensive

I'll admit to having done this a few times a couple of years back, but nowadays I'll just give the driver a wave.
I have a friend who still does it, but he's not around the railways much (usually just when he's with me), so I'm not too bothered about it.

, My original thoughts were more aggressive but weren't suitable for display on a public forum!

I also forgot to reply about the TPE driver, good on him for being polite and firm towards the enthusiasts who to be honest shouldn't have to be told to stay behind the yellow line.

Due to the low line speed and short sighting distance you could easily see it wasn't a genuine railway employee as soon as you laid eyes on him.

I genuinely believe that most spotters don high viz because A it makes them feel special and B they think it allows them to go/do what they want.

That is utter rubbish - as soon as a driver sees an orange HV the driver will blow up no matter who or what is wearing it - now hold on lets see - is it a pway worker or not, maybe it is, oh no I have just run him over - it does not matter how it makes someone feel - I would like to wear a coppers uniform but I don't, spotters wear HV's becaue it makes them feel like a railway worker and they are not!!!!!!!

I liked the drivers approach to them, polite but serious.

One other thing - the train did not release the doors and approached the station to stop - this was an instruction from the Signaller due to a complaint from one of the preceeding drivers most likely - please don't me hear of any spotters moaning about the late running of trains due to disruptive members of the public again - the cost of this incident probably run into the hundreds because of the delay costs not only to the train that stopped but ones behind it.

I've encountered rachealmatt, GRANDCENTRAL43067 and kyle123481 on board Grand Central services last year.

rachaelmatt' is about 16 and seemed fairly sensible, so it's disappointing he has made silly comments. His Dad is a driver for London Midland.

As for GRANDCENTRAL43067 he's about 16/17 and didn't seem too bad when I met him, and kyle123481 is about 15. They did seem a little bit veggy but not too bad.

They are certainly not in the same league as people like Dctrainmovies who really is old enough to know better (mid 20s at least, though not mentally), and acts in a way that is a total embarrassment to the hobby. And when people like him behave badly younger enthusiasts may follow that example.

The youngsters will probably grow out of it and realise they did wrong but Dctrainmovies and co will never learn. They had a group called 'ValEG' it should have been called VEG though. Along with Northallerton, Hadley Wood is another known hang out place.

It did also spring to mind that they since the train didn't actually stop there for passengers that the driver may have been on a special stop order as otherwise the TPE would have flown through Northallerton, not crawled into the platform.
The train had already called and they were videoing the departure. The train then made an additional stop. The platform at NTR is long enough to accommodate a full length Mk4 set, and the train only stopped at the rear of the platform (the platforms are staggered at NTR).

Having met the lad a few times, I can assure you he is one of the nicest lads you could meet, your comment is a bit out of order there
I've told you about three times before (and I am not going to tell you again) if you think a post is out of order/inappropriate, do not reply to it, use the report button instead (however we will only take action if we agree that it is unacceptable).
And to ralphchadkirk, what was the point?
Well, I am inclined to agree that it shouldn't have been posted here, but as you have, yet again, failed to use the correct procedure (which you are well aware of) the comment stands. And, having looked at what you wrote on Youtube, I am shocked you are not apologising for the comment, and withdrawing it. But that's down to you to decide.

Really, though, this discussion should be made on Youtube and not spilling over to here. I suggest you PM each other or something.

My advice would be for you to stop making comments against drivers who tell spotters off for being too close, they are well within their rights to tell such people off, and/or report them. Feel free to ignore the advice if you like, it's your choice.

Well it seems like you have grabbed the wrong end of the stick here because I wasn't saying it was out of order as in it needs to be deleted, I was saying it in a general context

Hold on, I'm confused here.

You're saying that ralphchadkirk's opinion is right and therefore he shouldn't apologise but my opinion on a completely different forum is wrong and I should be apologising for that?

My advice would be for you to stop making comments against drivers who tell spotters off for being too close

It's the only damn comment I've made! God, it's like every comment I make is going to come under bloody scrunity from now on!

Feel free to ignore the advice if you like, it's your choice.

:D

This isn't spotting though....

Standing dangerously close to the edge of the platform with a linespeed of 125mph. Behaving in a reckless manner potentially endangering their lives and disrupting the railway.

Oh well guess its ok as long as they are enjoying themselves

Not out or order at all Ian, not whatsoever. I've seen what he posted (and thanks to AmuroWhiteDemon the comment he then subsequently removed) and I also saw your comment that Ralph referred to and your comment is in the same league to be honest.

The last thing spotters and railway personnel alike need is for some goofball to be pulled under a high speed train because they stood too close to the platform. I would rather a driver had a quiet word in his ear or would you rather he was injured or worse some poor BTP has to knock on his parents door and explain his death? I see nothing whatsoever moronic about that...

It's people like that who give spotters a bad name...

I was commenting on his tone that he used, to me it sounded a bit wrong

To me that is an excuse for your comment and nothing more. I have just watched and listened to the video again a few times and you're so far off the mark it's unbelievable that you can even attempt to justify your comment.

Firm but fair is what I would describe the drivers comments as. Certainly not offensive and definitely not worthy of a comment like "moron" or the other word your friend called him on YouTube (that would get censored on here but twit is close enough). I hope it made your friend think twice, mind you having seen the IC225 clip I can see that your friend has no thought for the driver(s) he may be affecting due to being too close to the edge

I'd describe the driver as very polite considering the money that those idiots were wasting whilst nearly killing themselves.

Yes, but they blamed 'smarshthelegend' - a perfectly respectable and safe film maker who was bombarded with hate mail following the article
Is he the one with the huge hair who made the apology on behalf of the group? If so, I do have some sympathy for him. He got a telling off on Hull Trains 86101 once when it wasn't him any more than anyone else, and the same happened on Spitfire. I guess if you stand out people will go for you.

The tone was entirely appropriate, in my opinion. To be fair, the young lads did comply and did not give any backchat. They knew they'd done wrong.

Quite right, but apparently it's still "big and clever" to make the comments they did on YouTube...

Watched the video, the tone and manner of the driver was excellent, authoritative yet still very polite, I was impressed. The "offenders" got much worse from the people on the packed TPE train (quite a lot of chavs on that one I noticed!).

The way I see it is very simple - Stay behind the yellow line, if you can't do that you shouldn't be on the station.

which is what I find most contemptible about him and the others. Using the terms "Moron" and "t**t" about a rail professional tells me more about the poster using those terms.

And it seems that growing a pair and admitting wrongdoing isn't the vogue thing to do either

I think people like that view the ability to say 'please', 'thankyou' and 'sorry' as a weakness.... it's an attitude that's been growing amongst some for a while now, more's the pity. Perhaps they think that having the last word is a way of not losing face...

Yes, that's him
