Moving away from the outdated and, quite frankly, poor Kuju engine and onto Unreal is the smartest thing they've done. It does look incredibly and I'm hoping it'll be a lot easier for content producers to create and modify.

It looks fantastic. Just hope that a move to a new engine means a move to a new selling/costumer experience strategy.

This simulator is a completely new product. As stated already, there is no backwards compatibility, which means that developing for this new platform requires a completely new approach. The SDK will be available for third party developers after release (time of release subject to change).
Plus, with the Open Beta for those who purchase Train Simulator 2017 Deluxe, a lot of changes driven by the community may turn TSW into something revolutionary.
Unlike N3V which has T:ANE stuck with it's backwards compatibility, with the dumbest upgrade trick I've ever seen: change the trainz-build attribute on the configuration file et voilá! Upgraded content!!! :roll:

I think they missed a bit of a trick, if they had opened it with the Western mainlines it would have shown the new engine off in all its glory, showing the ability to take a route length previously unachieved!
I tried to play this a few years ago and MSTS before that but the poor graphics/slow load times always put me off. Now they're moving to the Unreal engine, this may get me interested again. I'll watch a few videos on YouTube before committing to it though.

I'm not interested in American traction so I'm waiting for a European route before I buy. It will be interesting to see what they do with this though...
