i cannot believe that First will be dragging rolling stock to and from Laira to bristol for exams...As laira has full vehicle lift facilities should be able to cope with all the exams that the cut off fleets need...it will be fiscally cheaper to transfer consumables by road from bristol, arriva and FGW will be able off cost exam costs etc to each other, fuel can be brought in from plymouth itself anyway...
it would be churlish not to assume that Laira has the full Exams for the sprinter, railbus, voyagers etc....
the only stuff going by road should be stock going for major overhaul...cyclic exams, power unit changes etc are and should be childs play for the laira lads
. . . this information has come directly from a fitters mouth (after plying him with copious amounts of alcohol)
I hope others will join me in showing our gratitude for the extreme hardships which some forum members are prepared to suffer, just to obtain inside information for the benefit of others.
We admire your ingenuity, determination and tenacity, 455driver!
Careful, he might be wary after last time, if he actually remembers it...It did take a couple of days to recover but I dont mind taking one (or several) for the team!
If anyone wants any more information I will be interrogating him again on Saturday 1st march!![]()
Hopefully not while still on the low-loader!I understand 150247 has been low-loaded down and seen working Gunnislake Branch.
Reports on another site that the 57 & day coaches stuck on Long Rock depot are to be put into passenger service. Two trips a day on the Cornish main line between Long Rock / St Erth & Plymouth being mooted.
Does anybody know anything re maintenance of the XC Voyagers over and above routine servicing, i.e. if due Exams.
I believe some Bombardier engineers are being outbased at Laira temporarily to carry out some exams, though how much they are gona be able to do is debateable....
There is still an overnight path in for XC to run from Exeter to Bristol via Yeovil so if a set needs swapping they can use that.
The train would be piloted by a FGW driver.
How are they getting from Plymouth to Exeter?
Unless I'm reading wrong I assume he is asking about those stuck west of Dawlish, due to the reference of Laira.
How are they getting from Plymouth to Exeter?![]()
It is better to remain silent and be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it!![]()

There is also 66006 mentioned as being trapped.
To quote a old post I photographed 220013 and 220014 on Saturday and note 220013 is not mentioned on the trapped fleet list. I also photographed 150125- the driver made my 3 year old daughters day giving a blow on the horn as he passed us.
