(Readers under 30 - Benny Hill is not a station; readers over 65 - neither is South Park)
To be fair he did not say that. He is just asking for people's opinion.
Is it professional? Probably not.
Does it bother me? I have far more important things in life to focus my attention on than this, if all he did was casually slipping the f-word into a conversation with a colleague.
Perhaps he means that the station codes do not compute.![]()
Why is the OP angry about this?
Or as some of the people I work with would say, "kinnel. This is a discussion about f**** all, really."
Totally unacceptable as it would be in any line of work in earshot of the public.
I would think he can expect a disciplinary if its reported.
Is it just me or is swearing becoming just part of the language? I recently had a BT engineer out to my faulty phone. When I asked him if he had any idea what it could be he replied " I think the cable is f**ked. My response to that was B**tard, this s**t keeps happening to my phone.
Quite normal!
Most 'swear words' have a genuine meaning, it's only through misuse that they became frowned upon.
I think his employers might take a rather different view:cry:
In my first "real" job in the 70's - if you were caught swearing in front of a customer....no matter who the cuss was directed at.....you'd be out of the door...end of. Things have changed (good/ bad?) with swearing - but provided it's not used in an aggressive manner to an individual(s), or used an excuse to make someone 'uncomfortable' - I couldn't give a F***!!!!!. Sometimes a little naughtiness can lighten a situation ....and get a few laughs on the way!. Now that can't a bad thing surely?
If he was one of mine he be told not to be a see you next tuesday and be more careful in future
Anyone can slip up
Swearing in front of hard working customers, who pay premiums for train travel don't expect to hear swearing from the very person who is receiving a wage from the ticket price paid.
Swear in the cab or out of ear shot - use a little sense
Just saying ........
6. Unacceptable behaviour
(1)No person shall use any threatening, abusive, obscene or offensive language on the railway.
As long as it's not aggressively at someone, I couldn't give a tinker's cuss.

I seem to be a rare breed of person that does not use any sort of swearing, nor blasphemy. I find it unpleasant and rude and do not not appreciate hearing it or reading it, never mind being insulted with it.
Something that hasn't been bought up yet- swearing on the railway is actually illegal. It's specified in the byelaws.
Of course while us railstaff should never swear it is okay for any Tom, Dick or Harriet stand there and call us all the bast++ds on earth and we are expected to take it, yes?
Well put it this way you can f++k right off sunshine, I might be railstaff but I am also a human being and expect to be treated as one.
If somebody thinks its acceptable to swear at me then I will sure as hell is a bit warm be swearing straight back at them!
If they have got a problem with that then tough I couldnt give 2 shakes of a rats-arse, treat others as you yourself expect to be treated!
Great. I break that every ******* day. :P
I'm not in a customer-facing job at the moment, but I've worked in some before and I didn't swear in front of customers. In all honesty it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if a guard or anyone else swore in my earshot as long as it wasn't directed at me or someone else.
