For many years the autoannouncers in SWT-land pronounced Micheldever as "MICH-el-dee-ver". Eventually they listened to the locals' complaints and got Phil and Celia to rerecord it with the correct "mich-el-DEV-er".
Was on southern last night and it said "amd" instead of "and".
Chiltern also tells you to change at harrow for london underground but no mention at rickmansworth or marylebone about the underground![]()
That was because there was no recording for 'Eastleigh' so it just missed it out but still displayed it on the screens.Once, when on a Brighton - Southampton service routed via Eastleigh (a couple of services a day are routed this way), the automated announcement missed out Eastleigh and read out "Fareham (long pause), Southampton". I can imagine more than a few passengers were confused.
Though no idea why they dont announce it at Marylebone.
Quite often when I'm on a merseyrail service into Chester
"This train is for please ensure you take all your luggage and personal belongings with you"
Please not-The announcement is not exact but you see where I'm coming form
I demand that for better understanding all voiced announcements should pronounce place-names with the correct regional accent
On approach to Chester, which has been ongoing for a while now 'Please change here for..please mind the gap between the train and the platform edge'
Also, Meols, on the Wirral, pronounced as Mells. When the 'The next station is Meols' is said, kind of sounds like 'The next station smells'.![]()
I noticed today that Merseyrail have sawn off the and Chester Zoo from the Bache announcement Alight here for Countess of Chester Hospital....
I wonder why though, you don't go to hospital on a train if you have an injury and I doubt you would go to visit either unless from a distance, but Chester Zoo is much more of an importance to the Hospital!
That's probably right as well about Meols!
In some places, you get that with the guards anyway! I recall when I was on a Leeds - Huddersfield stopper and the guard couldn't have had a more local accent (not surprising but even on the trains, it is unusual to hear things said the same way you'd expect to hear them!)
Yes, still there. Still annoying.Correct me if i am wrong because i have not lived there for about 2 years but The TW Metro one was terrible.
I've seen all sorts of oddities on West Anglia 317s, my favourite being one where the PIS system got stuck on the calling pattern for the service it had just worked, a slow Liverpool Street - Cambridge. It was now working a fast Cambridge - Liverpool Street, and would announce "We are now approaching..." when leaving stations and when passing through the ones that fast services don't stop at! Announcements played at stations would announce the train being for Cambridge and that the next stop was the one we had last stopped at. Confused a fair few people!
If it is announcing stations as you are just leaving them then it is usually because the CIS wasn't changed and is still on it's previous journey. This tends to happen during delays when there are tight turnarounds.I am inclined to think, given I have seen this happen a few times, and a recent North downs line leaving guildord springs to mind, that this may be a driver input code error putting in the route the wrong way round.
The 17:30 Pompey Lil express had this problem today ... the train left guildford, the display announced farncombe (though it didnt stop there), and someone then failed to alight at Godalming ... much to his displeasure. and as he expressed displeasure te the guard the train happily announced the next station would be godalming, when it would in fact be haslemere. I think the thing was switched off to avoid futher havoc. As I say ... possibly a side effect of a specific driver input (or lack of input) code error
. But I am only guessing.
Yes, still there. Still annoying.
She seems to suffer from AQI, announcing things like "This train is for the Airport? The next station is Haymarket?" Well, if the train doesn't know where it's going...!
Birmingham being read out with the same rising intonation and sounding very odd.
"The next station is Old Street. Alight here for Moorfields Eye Hospital. Change here for National Rail services."
But as for the above announcement, if it said the NEXT station is Old Street, presumably it's at Moorgate? In which case it shouldn't be saying Moorfields Eye Hospital as that's at Old Street!
Nothing wrong with that, except at the weekend and early morning/late night when the Northern City Line is closed.
Don't know if they still do as it's been a while, but at one point the 365s announced Kings Cross as "Blondon Kings Cross", similarly "Bletchworth Garden City", and a bit of clipping on the recording made Huntingdon sound positively rude...
Cheers,
