I believe the bridge over the A483, and the bridge under it further down the line, couldn't be doubled within the funding available. As it's possible to produce a timetable that doesn't need trains to pass each other near these bridges then they will be left as they are. This does of course create some performance risk!

The maps show the track under the A483 bridge at Dodleston is planned to be double track, so there will only be one 2.5 mile single track section Rossett-Gresford.

Thanks for update. Seems to have changed since I was slightly involved with the project three or four years ago. Are they building a second bridge, replacing the existing one or have they decided the existing one is big enough for two tracks?

The report says (p14) the room "should be adequate" for two tracks.

At 208m 1595y the A483 road passes over the railway on a concrete box structure (544A)
(Figure 3-5 ). This structure was identified at GRIP 2 stage as being possibly too narrow to
accommodate a double track railway. The width of 8.4m between the sides of the box
should, however, be adequate for a two track railway. On the approach to the bridge the
single line moves from the Up line formation to the middle of the double track formation
moving back to the Up line alignment before Pulford Level Crossing is reached at 208m
198y. Between Bridge 544A and Pulford Level Crossing the track is in a shallow cutting
with evidence of lineside drainage near to the level crossing.
