TPWS Isolation

Hoping someone can help me....about TPWS when rescuing a failed train......

So, if you rescue a failed from the rear the rule book says we have to isolate the TPWS before the movement commences. So does that mean, we isolate and then connect to the failed train at the rear or do we connect to the failed train from the rear and once connected we then isolate the TPWS??

I doubt it matters massively, as long as you don’t forget lol. However, I’d probably do it once coupled up and brake tested, as the movement can’t take place until then anyway.

We were taught that using the TPWS isolation switch should be the very last thing you do before moving and the very first thing you do when you are stopped to minimise the amount of time the safety system is isolated for and also minimise the chance of you forgetting to reinstate it afterwards. So yeah another vote for doing it once you are coupled to the failed set and ready to move.

Ultimately depends how the Train is rescued and moved. If you can Drive the formation from the Failed Unit there's not need to Isolate TPWS.
If the unit is propelled, aka Pushed Dead, it would need isolating, as the Active Cab behind may set off the TPWS Grids...

Propelling tends to be the last option taken.
