Can anyone confirm that the following diagram is correct for the TPE 170s regarding coach C near the cab - the two bays of four seats but without a table?

Somebody mentioned on here that the seats in the former First Class bit are Desiro seats, can anybody confirm that? They didn't seem any different when I travelled on one in October, but I sat in the main saloon so...

They might have found some extra  My 170 in November was most certainly ex-Desiro seats.

Didn't some (or all?) units come to TPE without first class? I can't remember their previous TOC...

TPE was given SWT's small fleet of 170s which already had a first class section. I've no idea why when refurbished ex-desiro seats were installed, given that SWT's Desiro fleet haven't been refurbished yet.

Presumably that's what they had on hand at TPE. Chapman have gone bust aswell have they not? That might make things tricky? There is one other 170309 is actually from Central Trains, and was previously a 'spot hire' unit - so either way it had a first class section (albeit permanently declassified).

TPE got the 170s from SWT with two first class sections. The area the OP has put a pen around on the diagram, together with the luggage rack and seat 65 formed the second First Class area. TPE realised that the 170s did not have enough standard class seats, so redid one FC area with new standard class seats, the new seats being the same type as on the 185s (less comfortable than the rest of the 170 standard class seats which just got new seat covers)

But I don't know what TPE did with the SWT 1st class seats that they removed.

They also got 309 (399) from CT in spot-hire/Central ((( ))) livery which had FC in both ends and SWT 170 seats

I work on the 170s nearly every day, and have never noticed the different seats in the former First Class section. I'm sure they are the normal 170 seats!

I will however now conduct a survey when I'm back at work next week...

It's not unfathomable that they changed the seats prior to entry to service, they didn't in Standard though.

AFAIK the seats in the converted standard class end have always been the same as the rest of standard class since refurbishment. I've been travelling on the 170's since they were introduced on TPE and have never seen desiro seats in them. When they first arrived they were put into Dynamic lines, but retained SWT interiors, with the 1st class declassified end as WillPS has posted above (albeit with orange vinyls removed so the whole partition was the same colour as the door). 170399 was refurbished before entering service as it came at a later date, but I believe it also carried a SWT style interior prior to this.

If you see 170s from the exterior you can see that the seats at the non-first class end have straighter less reclined seat backs than the rest of the standard class seats. I quite often see the 170s arrive at Piccadilly from another unit but haven't properly inspected the new standard class seats. All the standard class seats definetly have the same purple pattern seat covers.

But perhaps why there's disagreements is that TPE acquired a number of the same seats as already on the 170s but not enough so resorted to some 185 seats on a couple of units.

Nope, having actually physically travelled on them since introduced on TPE I can tell you with absolute confidence that none of the 170's have ever, at any point, been fitted with 185 seats. I may be wrong but I doubt it, I can't see why they'd bother to fit them only to remove them, infact with the 170's having a different bodyshell shape they might not even fit at all.
