It'll probably have been everywhere by the end of the year, by which time it'll have become the most boring loco since somebody at Brush contacted somebody at Sulzer and said, "you know what? We could make a Type 4!".

Sometimes I have wondered if they can get a steam train through Birmingham New Street

I seem to recall from a games thread on here a while ago that steam traction is barred from Birmingham NS due part to how enclosed the station is, and the fact that it has both the station concourse and a two-level shopping centre directly above the line.

Send Tornado or a pair of 50s through New Street, and ye are looking at a major smoke inhalation problem for anyone about the station or adjoining shopping centre. On the bright side though, that's exactly why Moor St. was built only a three minute walk away! 8)

update 3/2/10 Tornado is no longer going through Sunderland insted it is going down the freight line from Ferryhill to Stockton. They must of relised that the station is too low for steam trains and it would be delayed by metros. Not only that it would of given Nexus a hard time with enthusiasts on each metro station photographing it passing.

I knew that steam was banned through Brum NS, though my comment about the 50s was only an anecdotal one based on the amount of clag they normally give off.

Although I can easily imagine a pair of 50s "smoking out" the whole of Birmingham No Smoking*, I think I've seen them there before once or twice in the past. 8)
* - My personal nickname for Birmingham NS which comes from the "olden" days when - Though smoking was still permitted across most of the railway - Birmingham NS had a strict no smoking rule already in place due to it's enclosed layout. As I changed there relatively often, I used the nickname as a tool to remind me not to light up on the platform whilst awaiting my next train!
