Was today a dream or just plain weird (don't read this if you have a life/something else even mildly interesting to do) :p

02:10: My boss sends me a text asking me if I can be in by 8am due to staff member being absent. My lie-in never materialised and I did 11 hours instead of my planned 7 (09:00-20:00 instead of 13:00-20:00).

07:58: The train is early into Woking which allows me to change onto a non-stop service to London. Normally (in my experience) that connection isn't possible due to the train being on time/late.

08:30: Get a nice, hot bacon roll from the hut place near the Waterloo bus stops, with a bus arriving just minutes later. I'm the only one to get on and as this is where route 4 starts I got a nice quiet journey to Barbican.

08:45: Arrive at Barbican after just one 'incident' - hard braking after a white van man (on the phone) pulled out in front of the bus. Our bus driver was not too happy and lots of "pleasent" words were exchanged.

Now at work, I could enjoy a nice 11 hour day receiving faxes and messages from TOCs, e-mails from National Rail etc etc. Unfortunately not that much happened so I got to make a good start on the 65 page engineering works book covering the next 3-4 weeks from National Rail. Got a fair few pages covered. The only thing that was of remote interest was a random fire alarm on the stairwell that gave a colleague a reason to run up and down the fire escape looking for a fire. No fire was found however there was a report of a "suspicious-looking Mexican getting into the lift".

19:00: A BBC Jamliner called through a number of times with reports of a spillage... in his kitchen. He also asked what our favourite types of jam are. He seemed to get the message after having the phone put down on him several times.

19:50ish: It's home time and during my 5 minute walk to Barbican tube for the bus, I came face-to-face with Chris Eubank's 'Peterbilt' truck coming out from behind a bar in Farringdon (where Charterhouse Square becomes Carthusian Street). I know it was his as it had the registration "CHR11S". I don't know if he was driving though as it's so tall you cannot see inside. I'm amazed the driver got the thing out the side road!

20:05: At Waterloo I noticed that the 20:09 to Pompey via Eastleigh is shown as "Platform 14 - Delayed". I take a stroll over and come across a familiar face. It was only Gizmogle! As if that isn't bad enough, she conned me out of 50p! I then made a move (before she emptied my wallet), only to find the train wasn't even in the platform. When it arrived it had a nice quick turnaround and left... as a train to Waterloo via Richmond calling at Battersea and Vauxhall. Yeah, whatever!

Oh well, 9-3 tomorrow then CBT course on Monday!

What a coincidence, do you two have the same job? What does it involve?

We just get and supply the info for the radio/tv broadcasters basically :). Its a great office and there's about a dozen coffee shops within a 50m radius, still need to learn what the differences between the zillion variations of coffee are though

Why do you have to write 65 page reports if you're just giving service updates to radio stations?

Someone in the office prints off all of the engineering works for the next 4 weeks which is what that is. We just have to take the info off it and put it in the database, but it remains hidden until close to when they're due to take effect.

Not reports. We print all of the upcoming engineering works off each 3-4 weeks. We then put each set of works on the system and when the date of the works comes then, for example, any works relating to Suffolk will come up on the Suffolk radio stations' "profiles" to be read out on-air. The information you see on Teletext comes straight from us too.

Receiving e-mails/faxes/pager messages/calls from TOCs, phoning TOC/ferry/airport control rooms up to request info etc. Then inputting this into the system which is accessed by radio stations/teletext/BBC Travel/Other Clients. I started in July and Ramel is still/just finished training.

I'd say it's actually nearer Farringdon :p

I had just come from Stockport and was waiting for my train at Waterloo.
At the time I was running around vegging 450s :???: (only 11 left!) when I managed to walk into Damon! He gave me money :D
I like Damon.

Only because you looked at me in an evil and scary way. I know how much you needed that 50p anyway :p

I like Damon.
Of course you do 8)

Edit: Found a pic of Eubank's modestly-sized truck. You can now see why I was worried about getting run over by it!

It's taken you THAT long to realise? :p

I was flicking through the book and saw your name signed on all the simple one line/TOC ones

You didn't want to tackle the Metropolitan/Chiltern job then

Flicking through the book today I noticed you have done exactly the same - just a lot less ;) Anyway, I am meant to be "keeping and eye on Ramel" Sunday ;) Help where possible? Nah :p

P.S. The clone feature is quite handy...
