If a train normally follows a certain route but is diverted because of engineering works, are 'Route X' tickets that would normally be valid still valid even if the train no longer passes through the required station?
An example would be a ticket from Liverpool marked 'Route Crewe', when the line through Winsford is closed and trains have been sent via Manchester and Stoke to Stafford. Could it still be used or would the passenger have to travel via Chester?
(Note this is a hypothetical example. I have no specific ticket or date in mind, and I know trains are more often sent via Goostrey. But it has happened before now, and the principle will be the same everywhere.)
