Due to an inoperative ticket machine I boarded a train without a ticket today. Helpfully the machine was opposite where the guard alighted to dispatch so I was able to quickly ask if I could board.
Upon boarding the guard was able to lookup my booking and print it there and then. Does anyone know when this started as a service (Southern) and why it isn't officially advertised?
Very grateful to the guard and glad they were there to help.
As an aside I wonder why ticket machines still insist on having a card when it is irrelevant to the collection.
