I think that is worth doing, but if they can't stop the drones and glide bombs, let alone the ballistic and hypersonic missiles there won't be a Ukraine left to defend.
Even with everything that Russia is throwing at Ukraine, it's a small fraction of the damage that was caused by general bombing, carpet bombing and the V1 and V2 weapons during WWII. Did the U.K. give up then? No.

Besides which, Ukraine is working on developing jet powered interceptor drones to deal with the Russian jet engine drones. Yes, dealing with ballistic missiles is a lot harder, but Ukraine with European help is working on this as well.

It did seem that after the massive and totally obvious drop in bot activity (yet for some reason the BBC went with the belief it wasn't real) Elon got extremely upset and it was the day after that Starlink suddenly stopped working in Ukraine.

I am not sure if Elon really had nothing to do with this (it could well be that Trump decided to do it) but given his angry posts, it certainly seems like he did - but now is perhaps backtracking and trying to throw Trump under the bus because it does look very bad for Elon and Starlink in general.

This in itself is going to be interesting, because I'm sure Trump needs Elon's help in the mid-terms - but Trump and the GOP in general must be somewhat upset to be blamed so openly.

I suspect Trump doesn't want any more data centres knocked out, so wants to limit Ukraine's ability to target them. In fact, I'm certain this is the primary (or only) reason.

We all saw with our own eyes how all the bots just disappeared as if by magic for 24 hours or so. It was blissful and also highlighted how the bot problem is even worse than many of us could have imagined.

Reform posted some outrageous things and they had no backup from the bots at all, meaning pretty much 100% of replies were attacks on Reform. I believe much the same can be said for things in the USA too.
Ukraine has not been able to use Starlink over Russian territory as the U.S. has never given permission for this. So all long range strikes into Russia use other methods of navigation and control.

Starlink is most useful to Ukraine in controlling drones (air types, ground types and sea types) hitting moving targets or targets that can change location within the occupied Ukrainian territory. Or for reconnaissance.

In terms of intelligence services, Ukraine does rely on U.S. intelligence to warn them of incoming cruise and ballistic missiles. Plus helping identify targets.

Ukraine will survive without these U.S. services but yes, they will suffer more deaths and it will extend the war by an unknown number of years.

European countries can help with some of these issues but cannot replace all of them. And Ukraine using other technologies (such as mesh networks) can help.

IMHO, Ukraine should continue targeting Russian factories used to produce weapons, components or chemicals used in weapon production, oil production facilities, refineries and data centres. And any other legitimate military targets.

And yes, the countries that support Ukraine need to step up and significantly increase support with more weapons as well as putting as much pressure as possible on Russia and Trump.

To put maximum pressure on Trump without him being able to single out individual countries, the countries that support Ukraine need to act as a group.

Unless the GOP engages in massive electoral fraud I think Trump has about two and a half weeks of real political power.

All sorts of rumours going around of what he might do during and after the mid terms.

I don't have a clue what he will do, but I'm pretty sure the answer won't be doing nothing.

Indeed. The saying about a cornered rat lashing out applies here I think; throwing anything and everything at the wall to see what, if anything, will stick.

I think you can safely say he will resort to type,

That is, bluster and threat, He actually has little actual power to stop the mid-terms, the states organise them, and the senators automatically lose their seats a few weeks after the vote, 2nd of November I believe?

so, no speaker, to hold things up, and the next speaker will be a democrat anyway, he can try to delay the seating of new senators, but they will happen, then will come the push backs, especially if the democrats then control house and senate, investigations will start, looking into the many misuses of presidential powers, and how his family have profited from his presidency,

He I expect will shout and scream, at how unfair it all is, but will largely be dead duck, at that point, does he run, resign, and accept a pardon from Vance, who will then be under investigation himself, or do something really stupid like start another insurrection, then when it fails, flee to Russia?

In a rare outbreak of sanity (such as it is) they're now not going to livestream the upcoming execution of the Fort Hood murderer:

US President Donald Trump has called off plans to livestream the execution of former US army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan by firing squad.

Trump had previously said he approved of showing online the death of the Fort Hood attacker, while Vice-President JD Vance cast doubt on whether it would happen and said he would not watch it.

As criticism over the public display mounted, Trump said on Thursday that "many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die".

"I think streaming the execution for all to see might have been a strong deterrent for the World to witness how America deals with Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan," Trump said.

"He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed," the president added.

Hasan fatally shot 13 unarmed US soldiers at a military base in Texas in 2009, injuring another 32. His execution by firing squad will be the first military execution in more than 60 years.

Trump said the execution can be viewed in person by the families of the victims.

"They deserve to witness JUSTICE!" Trump said.

Sanity is in extremely short supply in this day and age - especially where Trump/MAGA is concerned where it's rarer than unmined Russian Alexandrite - but one has to take these small doses of it when and where they appear. Something else utterly insane will happen to balance this out though before the end of the week, as is always the way with Trump.

Don't know if this belongs here or in a "Ukraine invaded" thread, but https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqwyrnwd9dw1o says
Russia has accused Ukraine of attacking an oil refinery after Volodymyr Zelensky said such strikes, halted at the request of the US, would resume.

Ukraine's president said he had restricted attacks for three days while Russia had continued striking Ukrainian energy infrastructure. "We're done," he told the Financial Times, external.
Why would anyone be surprised? The Trump link is in a later paragraph:
He previously said he would agree to the "energy ceasefire" announced by US President Donald Trump on Sunday if Moscow also abided by it.

But he accused Russia of ignoring the proposed deal within hours of it being announced, with strikes leaving hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians without power. The Kremlin never said it had agreed to the deal.
