Thoughts for a name for the IEP Trains

I thought this had already been answered? The logical name is the Super Hitachi Intercity Train.

Actually I rather like the 395 Javelins which are pretty similar to the 800s.

Or just call them SETs as that is their name. I suppose that IEP is ok as well, as they have come to be associated with that name. You could also call them 800s/801s as that is also an official description.

I for one do not get this obsession with nicknaming rolling stock, its a bit daft to be perfectly honest.

I find it an interesting artifact of web-based forums like these. Where once you'd have to ask a friend or fellow spotters "what do you call them?", and nicknames would slowly catch on organically, now so many people can communicate so quickly that some seek consensus on a nickname before anyone's even seen a unit on the rails.

IEP is the name, only women or saps would want some kind of fluffy name. It's not a requisite, if it gets a name from the company who made it, like Electrostar/Desiro etc, then call it that. Otherwise, it is IEP.

I find the idea that "women or saps" wanting to give it a nickname also pretty hilarious. As though there aren't any women spotters out there. Genuinely laughed.

But back in the real world, having a nickname makes everything much easier. Indeed, IEP is the nickname many of us have given it, as its real name is the SET, or even the class 800/801.

Nah, neither does the very detailed specification which goes to great lengths to avoid these trains being Voyager Mk2s.

How about Defiant, as it would appear that they are going to have to be when they come face to face with certain groups from here and the rail press. It also allows the sci-fi geeks to have a choice of star trek starship named train types.

If Star Trek ship names are allowed, I shall henceforth refer to them as Warbirds :P
