Hey guys,

Can anyone advise me of the times @ Preston of the West Coast Premier hauled by 87002 on 10th Sept?

Rail blue charters are running Watford/Edinburgh!

Cheers

For the OP, due past Preston at half 9 (platform 3 booked), then looped at Barton & Broughton Pass for 10 mins or so.

I'll be travelling on this tomorrow - is there any way of finding detailed timings for the route, as Rail-Blue's website only lists pick-up points. Alternatively, will we be given (as used to happen on Past-Time Rail) a little booklet containing the timings and information about the journey on board?

Does anyone know if it'll be going up the fast lines along the Trent Valley after the Nuneaton pick up, or kept on the slow line out of the way of the Pendos? I'm hoping to get a shot of it at either Tamworth or Lichfield.

Yes Rail Blue do supply a booklet (A4 size) with journey details, mileages and times.

Got a shot of it passing through Tamworth today on my way to work, about 15 down, with a northbound Pendo unbelievably close on it's tail! I'm amazed at how close together the trains can run on the Trent Valley. Very happy now :D It was sad seeing classmate 87031 sitting in the scrapyard in Kingsbury on my way back to Birmingham though.

Was a proper decent tour only downer was the weather and it go's to show electric traction tours can sell (easier if its 002). Considering the name of the next tour in December "The Royal Scot" i think a reappearance from 002 would be most welcome. Well done to Railblue for this a truly memorable day a real taster of what it was like doing 87s in the late eighties and how the WCML should be remembered:D

Well, this was the first railtour I've been on in a few years, and I can only add to the comments above - it was a really great day out, with well presented, comfortable stock, and great traction - and for someone like me who can't remember rail blue days, it was a great feeling to ride behind a blue 87 hauling a rake of blue and grey coaches.

Overall, a fantastic day - best train ride I've had in years!

It is great that Class 86 and 87's are being used for railtours. There ought to be more electric traction railtours.

But a shame about the timings of this and the December The ROyal Scot railtour. Would be great if the tour started in Euston instead of Watford. And with the 5:30am start, it's not possible to base yourself in London overnight and get to Watford for that early.

Running the tour out of London means an additional loco is required to take the stock to Euston, the additional cost of this is a problem. The timings reflect the 100mph top speed and number of stops and are the only way to provide time at the destination. Important given that the majority of customers aren't enthusiasts.

Plenty of places to grab a bed from in Watford.

Id pay a premium for 110mph timings a rake of Cargo D mk3s in blue and a Euston start with Preston-Carlisle stops just like the Royal Scot used to be. Dream on
