A night in Cardiff then beckons, and after a lie-in and leisurely breakfast, we return to the station for the 1045 XC to Nottingham, arriving at 1400 on Sunday afternoon.

After that long journey, and it being a Sunday, we are fortunate to have a quick connection onwards, so we board the 1419 Northern service to Chesterfield which arrives at 1454 on Sunday afternoon.

We stretch our legs with a walk up into Chesterfield Town Centre, admiring the Crooked Spire on the way, and head to New Beetwell St for the 1515 Hulley's bus 170 to Baslow, where we arrive at Nether End at 1542, Sunday afternoon.

Baslow in the summer months offers much to see and is a very useful place to change buses to go to Chatsworth House, but not on a cold February afternoon, but we still stroll around to the bridge over the river with its picturesque cottages before making our way back to the bus stop near the garden area in the centre, where we board the 1630 TM Travel service 215 to Sheffield Interchange where we arrive at 1720 on Sunday afternoon

We take the 17:30 First route 17 to Tinsley, Meadowhall South supertram stop, arrivng 18:40 Sunday

We then make use of the Supertram and board the 1850 Supertram service to Middlewood, on the Yellow Line, arriving there at 1923 on Sunday evening.

We quickly walk to Leppings Lane and arrive at 19:39, before hopping back on the 17 to Sheffield Station, because the sandwich bar in Middlewood is just too good. (jk)

We then head back into the station and leave Sheffield in the form of 1M72, the 2020 CrossCountry service to Birmingham New Street (the 1820 from Newcastle), which arrives at 2128 on Sunday evening.

Sunday night is not a time to wait around, so we board the 2230 Virgin service to London Euston that arrives at 0027 on Monday morning.

Neither is London Euston at 0030! Fortunately the Hotel Ibis next door has a room free, and after a comfortable night's sleep, we board the 0730 Pendolino to Glasgow Central, arriving 1201 Monday lunchtime.

After that rather long rail journey, we now make a shorter one by rail and board the 1245 First ScotRail service to Kilwinning that arrives at 1319 on Monday afternoon.

We have a short stroll through Kilwinning, from the railway station to Howgate, and then we board the 1340 Stagecoach West Scotland route 11 to Kilmarnock (Bus Station), arriving there at 1418 on Monday afternoon.

Time to have a substantial meal, before going to the bus stop on Queens Drive, where we board the 1624 Stagecoach West Scotland service X16 to Ayr Bus Station that arrives at 1654 on Monday afternoon.

We have a lovely afternoon in Ayr, before we board the 1935 Stagecoach West Scotland route 4 to Glasgow (Buchanan Bus Station), arriving there at 2121 on Monday evening.

Time for a long ride on an operator we have seen, but never used, so we board the 2300 Megabus service M11 to Birmingham to stop PA on The Priory.. Queensway, that arrives at 0410 on Tuesday morning.

After that lovely long journey we decide to go and stretch our legs and walk through the lovely city centre of Birmingham, just as dawn approaches and the sun rises. We then grab a spot of breakfast and then we board National Express West Midlands route 66 at 0603 to New Oscott (Beggars Bush/Tesco) in Birmingham, directly opposite the Megabus coach stop, that arrives there at 0648 on Tuesday morning.

After much fun with the commuters on the 907, we then board National Express West Midlands route 33 at 0927 to Perry Barr (One Stop Shopping Centre), arriving there at 0943 on Tuesday morning.

Enough of bus rides for the time being, so after a look at the local shops and having a hot drink, we make our way to the railway station, noting that whilst it is on the line of the Grand Junction Railway, the existing station buildings are built to a far more modern style and we board the 1044 LM service to Wolverhampton that arrives there at 1133 on Tuesday morning.

Yes, I did forget, my apologies, it is just simply now the 26. All Wolverhampton-based routes were usually in the 500s, but after the routing change they've lost the 5s. Walsall is the same with the 300s. Can be very confusing because there are now three seperate Number 2 routes operated by NXWM.

This is the point where this quiz continues. I have had long telephone conversations with Traveline West Midlands and it does appear that the number changes did in fact cause much confusion. After much deliberation from all the Bilston travel information facts I was given, I will now say the following:-

We look around Dudley to stretch our legs and ponder on the recent places that the bus journeys have taken us to that once all had their own railway station, Dudley being one of them, but as time is getting late in the afternoon, we return to Dudley bus station to seek an onward connection that will take us out of the West Midlands, which we do find find and after a hot drink and a snack, we board the 1915 National Express service to London (Victoria Coach Station) that arrives there at 2240 on Tuesday evening

Toy with leaving the country, so stroll to Cricklewood station only to find no through trains to Gatwick

Remember the rules and catch the 2258 FCC to Bedford instead, arriving 0002 Wednesday morning

It is so very fortunate to only have a 10 minute wait for an onward connection at that time, so we board the 0012 EMT service to Nottingham that arrives there at 0145 on Wednesday morning

By which time we really must get some sleep, so after a short rest in a local hotel, we board the 0826 Trent Indigo service from Broadmarsh Bus Station to Hathern, where we alight at the Anchor Inn at 1011, Wednesday morning.
