My mistake - I have struck through my post.

We go and get some food from the nearby McDonalds and then go and catch the 15:12 Stagecoach Service 10 to Jarrow where we arrive at 16:15 on Wednesday Afternoon in the hope of catching the Metro for the onward journey.

We next board the 1629 Nexus Metro service to Pelaw metro stop that arrives there at 1636 on Wednesday afternoon.

Just to clarify a PM query raised about my previous posting. The published timetable shows the service terminating at South Shields Market.

Seemingly the route map of the 50 / 50A service doesn't make clarification any easier as it calls the terminus South Shields Town Centre, My apologies if this may have caused some confusion. I note that the game has progressed onwards since.

We make the opportunity to move to heavy rail by making our way up to the national network platforms. We continue with a protracted route to Scotland on the 17:16 FSR service to Glasgow Central arriving at 21:39 on Wednesday.

We don't like really like Glasgow on an evening and so decide it's best to catch another service straight back out. We board the 2148 Scotrail service from Partick as far as Carluke where we arrive at 2231 on Wednesday evening.

Still time for another rail journey, so we board the 2331 First ScotRail service to Lanark that arrives there at 2342 on Wednesday evening.

There are no further trains from the station tonight, so we wait for the morning to rise and board the 06:23 Scotrail service to Exhibition Centre arriving at 07:21 Thursday morning.

Continuing northwards, we then board the 0741 First ScotRail service to Dalmuir that arrives there at 0803 on Thursday morning.

We note two departures a few minutes apart on the departure boards to the same place. Oddly enough by catching the second train we arrive at our chosen destination earlier. We therefore let the 08:08 departure leave without us and board the 08:12 FSR service to its terminating station of Springburn arriving at 08:42 on Thursday morning.

Wishing to continue eastwards, we next board the 0927 First ScotRail service to Falkirk Grahamston that arrive there at 1007 on Thursday morning.

Heading 'up country' we board the 10:37 FSR service to Bridge of Allan arriving at 10:59 on Thursday morning.

We next take the 1129 First ScotRail service to Dunblane that arrives there at 1137 on Thursday morning.

We wait at the station before boarding the 11:58 Scotrail service to Edinburgh, arriving at 13:04 Thursday afternoon

We decide to head up to the north-east of Scotland next and board the 1336 First ScotRail service to Kingussie that arrives there at 1607 on Thursday afternoon.

Not wanting to double back on our selfs we wait it out at the station before boarding the 17:32 Scotrail service to Inverness, arriving at 18:21 Thursday evening.

Continuing our rail travelogue, we next board the 1846 First ScotRail service to Pitlochry that arrives there at 2028 on Thursday evening.

Again we decide not to double back on our journey so we wait for the next southbound train, retiring to the nearby Kingfisher Bar for a wee dram or two whilst we wait. Returning to the station we board the 22:05 FSR service and suffer deja-vu as we alight at Bridge of Allan arriving at 23:05 on Thursday night.

Still another late rail service is available, so we next board the 2312 First ScotRail service to Edinburgh Park that arrives there at 2359 on Thursday evening.

There are no more rail services today so we wait till the next morning to board the 06:02 Scotrail service to Edinburgh, arriving at 06:13 Friday morning.

We join with the early travellers and board the 0633 First ScotRail service to Dundee that arrives there at 0812 on Friday morning.

Observing the minimum connection time we find a service to Glasgow, also noting that it calls at Bridge of Allan. Still we decide not to venture that far on the service as we board the 08:17 FSR service and alight at Gleneagles arriving 08:55 on Friday morning.

Gleneagles may be a very nice place to visit but the lack of a regular train service unfortunately is one that might be a cunning plan to ensure that an unwary rail traveller is forced to spend some time and money in the local shops. After divesting ourselves of a number of currency notes on souvenirs in the town, we return to the railway station to board the 1058 First ScotRail service to Inverness that arrives there at 1328 on Friday afternoon.

We have sufficient time to pick up some refreshments and supplies for our next journey. We depart on the 13:34 FSR service to Kyle of Lochalsh arriving at 16:00 on Friday afternoon.

As we are sadly aware, the bus stop in some 370 yards from the railway station... (how very thoughtless)... so we make the best of our time afforded at this terminal railway station until we board the 1714 First ScotRail service to Dingwall that arrives there at 1912 on Friday afternoon.

We continue on the next available service, the 19:38 FSR service, to the short platform at the reopened station of Beauly arriving at 19:55 on Friday.

As time is now drawing on, we need to find a larger railway station, preferably one with longer platforms than the truncated one that we find ourselves stood on here, so we board the 2033 First ScotRail service to Inverness that arrives there at 2048 on Friday evening.

We arrive too late to connect with the Caledonian Sleeper and don't fancy a trip up the Far North line tonight so elect for a journey to the Granite City on the 21:31 FSR service arriving in Aberdeen at 23:41 on Friday.

Such is the time, we reluctantly have to await the early Saturday morning coastal service and we board the 0526 First ScotRail service to Montrose that arrives there at 0609 on Saturday morning.
