Unfortunately, as the road outside Macclesfield railway station is one way only and all the buses passing there only run up the steep hill to the bus station and also, we cannot show the contestants round our rural part of Prestbury as the last public transport known there was a stagecoach (the real one, not the bus company) from the Macclesfield area that used to have a stop at the lodge of Adlington Hall, but that ceased to run in 1756, so we make our way into the railway station and board the 1009 XC service to Stockport that arrives there at 1021 on Sunday morning.

Can't you tell that you are in my home area...:D

Although the railway station proudly proclaims it is the gateway to many destinations, and judging by the departure screen that seems to be the case, we decide to remain in the local area.

We exit the station to take advantage of the Free Metroshuttle bus. The first departure of the day, the 10:30 Arriva North West: Stockport Metro Shuttle (300 service) conveys us the short distance to Stockport Bus Station arriving at 10:34 on Sunday morning.

We cross the road to the bus stop that serves the outbound traffic from the city centre and decide to pay a visit to the Moravian Settlement that was constructed in that part of East Manchester and we board the 1629 Stagecoach Manchester service 219 to Fairfield (Audenshaw Road/The Trough) that arrives there at 1652 on Sunday afternoon.

Late on Sunday as it is, we are still afforded an opportunity to travel by omnibus along the route of what was was a short branch line off the main line, so we walk to the bus stop outside the railway station and board the 2257 Arriva North East service X18 to Alnwick bus station that arrives there at 2308 on Sunday evening.

There are no more departures this evening so we settle down to enjoy the splendour of this Northumbrian settlement.

The following morning we continue northwards towards the border on the 06:31 Arriva Northumbria X15 service and alight at Berwick-upon-Tweed (Golden Square) arriving at 07:23 on Monday morning.

We feel a trip back to the coast is in order as we wish to see the oldest operational lifeboat house in the British Isles.

We board the 10:59 Arriva Northumbria service 35 and alight at Newbiggin (Cresswell Arms) arriving at 11:33 on Monday.

We note that we are afforded some time before the next onward service arrives so after examining what Stobhill has to offer the discerning visitor, we decide to travel onwards to the service terminal point and we board the 1638 Arriva Northumbria service 2 to Abbey Meadows (Shops) that arrives there at 1656 on Monday afternoon.

With only 'local' shops at our current location we look to get the next bus back to somewhere of higher importance. We board the 17:17 Arriva Northumbria service 2 to Morpeth (Castle Square) arriving at 17:28 on Monday afternoon.

With Haymarket being an interchange for the Tyne & Wear Metro we take the opportunity to travel on the light rail network.

The frequent service on the Metro means we can complete our circuit of the North Tyneside coast by joining the 20:09 Tyne & Wear Metro service and alighting at Monument arriving at 20:30 on Monday evening.
