It's getting late, so we take a short walk to North Cross Roundabout, walk under the subways, where we stop for the night in the Copthorne Hotel.

After a full English in the morning, we run across the road to the bus stop at the north end of Western Approach and catch the 0631 First Devon & Cornwall 81C Service to Whitsand Bay Holiday camp, arriving at 0719 Tuesday Morning, ideal location to take in the morning sea air

With some difficulty you can get the ferry times on the Traveline SW site - the journey time is 7 minutes.

Use the timetable lookup page and use Tamar Bridge as the operator

Takes about 10 minuites in calm water, according to the website. Dzug2 beat me too it, i used the ferry in one of my responses on this quiz.

I see that this now affords us the unmissable opportunity to return to the settlement that gave its quiz name many months ago to the description of one young forum member who confessed to being totally lost in that area...Lybster Omnibus Syndrome!!!

After a hearty mid-day meal full of nourishing vegetables and large size portions of the local beef, we decide it is the time to re-visit a place that once was the terminus of the now long-closed Wick and Lybster Light Railway, so we return to the bus stop and board the 1446 Stagecoach Highlands service X97 to Lybster (outside the Portland Arms Hotel) that arrives there at 1458 on Thursday afternoon.

Does anyone know what is going on here? It seems very unlikely that two different buses would be used and as one arrives at the same time as the other leaves, there would be no time to change buses. I think that if you look at the X97/X99 timetable, exactly the same situation also occurs at Wick, St Fergus Road for the journeys to the Gills Bay ferry terminal, as described in your quote, at 1241 on the same Monday to Saturday timetable (in addition to your stated journey at 1741) and also at the times of the 1245 and 1741 services on the Sunday timetable, so it looks to be a regular "twice-daily" occurrence to tie in with Gills Bay ferry times, as there are two afternoon ferry sailings from Gills Bay to St Margarets Hope.

I agree it is unlikely two buses would be used and wonder if it is one of those situations where, to circumvent EU regulations, the timetables show seperate journeys, although in practice they are covered by the same bus and driver with through fares usually being available?

And perhaps, following railway practice, there is a little "recovery time" in the schedule to Wick, and buses usually arrive a little before the scheduled departure time!

I have used one of my Stagecoach contacts to search out that information that you require and both of the 1201 and the 1701 afternoon services from Dunbeath, War Memorial through to the Gills Bay ferry terminal are internally classified as a split-route service that can be booked through and made as a single journey, but I will wait to see if you are told anything different when you ask on Monday.

Incidentally, on another thread on the Light Rail/Other Transport sub-forum, comment has been made that High Peak treat the Transpeak service from Derby to Manchester as four separate but internally conjoined services, in order to overcome some legislation.

I'm happy to go with that and we will continue by boarding the 1714 Stagecoach Highlands bus route X97 service to John O'Groats arriving at 1802 on Thursday.

Well, we cannot return on the bus upon which that we arrived here which rather leaves us no options at this time of the day, to book overnight accommodation first, then to spend some time exploring the environs of John o'Groats, before retiring early for the night for a long and well-earned rest. We awake early on Friday morning and after the customary hearty breakfast, we return to the bus stop and board the 0730 Stagecoach Highlands service 80 to Murkle (Sibmister Road) that arrives there at 0823 on Friday morning.
