A change of platform and we board the 2234 First ScotRail service to Perth that arrives there at 0008 on Monday morning.

After finding a nice hotel overnight an early start sees us at the rail station for 06:39 to Edinburgh Park Arriving there at 08:06 Monday Morning

After deciding on our onward options we decide to stay with rail as our mode of transport for the next journey and we now take the "many stops" 0857 First ScotRail service to Helensburgh Central that arrives there at 1054 on Monday morning.

After wandering around Helensburgh for a while, we find ourselves next to Helensburgh Upper station and decide it's time to take a look at Glencoe, but that's not easy from where we are, so the first move is to jump on the 13:06 Scotrail service to Bridge of Orchy, arriving there at 14:46 on Monday afternoon.

We indulge our desire to look around Glencoe, then continue on Scottish Citylink 915 service at 1656, travelling to Portree Somerled Square, arriving at 2140 Monday evening

The Isle of Skye does not really have any onward transport connections at this time of the day, so we find a hostelry for the night and after a full Scottish breakfast to sustain us for the coming day, we return to Somerled Square and are delighted that there is a short "local area bus route" leaving shortly, so we board the 0830 Scottish Citylink service 916 to Uig Pier that arrives there at 0900 on Tuesday morning.

Our sea legs are ready so it's onto the 09:40 Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from Uig to Tarbert (Harris), arriving there at 11:20 on Tuesday morning.

'Fraid that's not a valid move. Ferries to outlying islands are not allowed.

Acoss an estuary or river or lake is fine - but the destination must be part of the UK mainland or have a fixed link to it. So Anglesey and Skye are fine (bridges), the IOW isn't

Fairly dos, but doesn't that negate going from King's Cross to St Pancras and a couple of other possibles, like West Hampstead, as busing or tubing, while possible, isn't sensible?

Helensburgh has little to offer so we jump on the 11:35 Garelochhead Minibus service 316 from East Princes Street to Garelochhead, Dunivard Road on B872, arriving there at 11:52 on Monday morning.

We spend a short time there before boarding the 1233 Wilsons of Rhu service 316 to Rhu (opposite the marina) that arrives there at 1244 on Monday morning.

A quick walk takes us to the bus stop at Rhu, Opposite Rhu Ellan Court on Gareloch Road where we then catch the 13:12 Garlochhead Minibus service 316 to Coulport (at Naval base on Shore Road) arriving there at 13:50

We are warned off staying around too long by an MP (or maybe it's G4S these days) so we return as far as Kilcreggan School Road on the 316 departure at 1405, which arrives at 1418 on Monday afternoon

We continue our tour of this area by boarding the 1518 Wilsons of Rhu service 316 to Helensburgh (opposite to Kidston Park on Rhu Road Lower) that arrives there at 1546 on Monday afternoon.

We then decide to head back south and so amble down to Helensburgh Upper only to find that there is a 5 hour wait for the next train so head back to Helensburgh Central to board the 16:40 to Glasgow Queen Street arriving there at 17:26

Confusion caused by tiredness has afflicted us so we find a small hotel where we take the evening meal before booking in for the night which affords us time to sleep early for the night and after partaking of an early breakfast, we return to the bus stop and board the 0728 Scottish Citylink service 926 to Arden (Youth Hostel) that arrives there at 0942 on Tuesday morning.

The Scottish Citylink 916 service departs at 1041 and takes us to Portree Somerled Square, arriving at 1715 Tuesday afternoon.

Pity it's Tuesday - some days it goes on to Uig

Deciding to head for Dunvegan Castle, we jump on the 17:40 Stagecoach on Skye service 56 from Portree Square to Dunvegan Castle, arriving there at 1820 on Tuesday evening

Well we are stuck there until 1108 next morning, when the 56 bus takes us back to Portree, arriving in Somerled Square at 1151, Wednesday

Maybe the laird Macleod will put us up for the night, maybe not.

We decide to head south again and take the 601 MacLean's Coaches at 12:35 and go to Ardvasar, Newton Bank, arriving there at 13:39 on Wednesday
