We decide to seek out a journey by rail to the coast and find there is a direct one and one that affords up time for a hot drink, so suitably refreshed, we enter the railway station and board the 0728 GA service to Southend Victoria that arrives at 0816 on Friday morning.

We walk through the shopping area to Central station and catch the 0850 C2C stopper , alighting at Limehouse at 0958, Saturday morning.

Limehouse station also offers access to the Docklands Light Railway and will enable us to visit the area where the Tower of London is situated, so we access the DLR platforms and board the 1007 DLR service to Tower Gateway that arrives there at 1012 on Saturday morning.

We make our way to Tower Hill and catch the 15 Heritage bus at 1022 to Trafalgar Square , arriving at 1042 Saturday morning

We then run to get to charing cross station just in time to board the 10:45 service to Hastings arriving at 12:18 on sat afternoon

We have time to gather a snack lunch before catching the 1238 Countryliner 304 service to Hawkhurst High Street, arriving at 1338 Saturday afternoon.

Time to stretch our legs to see what the town centre has to offer, before boarding the 1438 Arriva Kent and Sussex service 5 to Maidstone (King Street) that arrives there at 1537 on Saturday afternoon.

We now board the 1 from Maidstone east railway station at 15:52 to my home town Chatham which arrives at 16:17 on sat

We decide to revert back to the mode of rail, so we walk to the railway station (the last clue did not specify what road in Chatham we were at) and board the 1642 SE service to Herne Bay that arrives there at 1726 on Saturday afternoon.

We leave the station and catch a Stagecoach service 6 bus at 1732 that takes us to Canterbury Bus station, arriving at 1827, Saturday evening

We now head to Canterbury East Railway Station, picking up some food on the way to get the 18:59 train to Snowdown thinking that its in Wales, and there is a famous Mountain there, we arrive at 19:13 on Saturday

We have half an hour to wait for the Stagecoach 89 bus at 1943 which we take to Whitfield, The Archer, arriving at 2008, Saturday evening

We decide to take a different service of the Stagecoach fleet and board the 2029 Stagecoach in East Kent service 61 to Dover (Pencester Road) that arrives there at 2041 on Saturday evening.

Little in the way of buses at that time in the evening, so we wait for the 2135 Stagecoach 102 departure for Folkestone bus station, arriving at 2200, Saturday evening

Noting the bus sitution at this time of night, we decide to walk to the railway station to continue our journey and board the 2256 SE service to Ebbsfleet International that arrives there at 2332 on Saturday evening.

Knowing that we will be now spending the night at Ebbsfleet, we wait for the 05:45 Fast Track B service to Bluewater Bus Station arriving there at 06:00 on Sunday Morning

Early Sunday morning is not conducive to good onward connections so we wait until it is time to make a short onward journey and board the 0640 Arriva service 490 to Stone (Milestone Road) that arrives there at 0648 on Sunday morning.

We now take a slow walk up to Stone Crossing Railway Station; to board the 07:20 service to Dartford on Sunday Morning, which arrives there at 07:24

We decide we have had enough of the undoubted delights of Kent, and catch the 0730 rail substitute bus to Lewisham arriving at 0837 on Sunday morning

Another chance now to ride on the Docklands Light Railway from its Lewisham terminus, so we board the 0848 DLR service to West India Quay that arrives at 0905 on Sunday morning.

Consulting the TFL journey Planner, we decide that the quickest way to Canary Wharf Pier is to walk, so we do so and catch the 0933 Thames Clipper to Embankment Pier, arriving at 0959 Sunday morning

We make our way to the Underground station and board the 1013 Northern Line service to London Euston Underground station that arrives there at 1022 on Sunday morning.

We catch the 1045 VWC service as far as Penrith, arriving at 1435, Sunday afternoon

A Sunday afternoon bus ride in the north part of the Lake District appeals to us and we walk to the bus stop outside the railway station and board the 1515 Stagecoach in Cumbria service X5 to Keswick bus station that arrives there at 1555 on Sunday afternoon.

We take the 16:25 Stagecoach Cumbria route 555 to Staveley Abbey Square, arriving at 17:43 on Sunday

Sunday at tea-time is not the best of time to plan onward bus journeys that will leave us stranded, so we decide to take a rail journey to somewhere sizeable and board the 1806 First TPE service to Lancaster that arrives there at 1837 on Sunday evening.

We continue on the 1857 Virgin departure to Birmingham New Street, arriving at 2050 Sunday evening.

Time for a hot drink before boarding the 2124 ATW service to Chester that arrives there at 2331 on Sunday night.
