Only a short time to wait, so we externally view the Minster, before boarding the 1516 Nottingham Pathfinder service 100 to Nottingham (Victoria Centre) that arrives there at 1553 on Monday afternoon.

Just in nice time to stroll over to the stand for the 1605 Trent/Barton Pronto service to Heath, where we alight at Heather Ave at 1714, Monday teatime.

Onwards by omnibus sees us board the 1747 G & J Holmes service 48 to Clay Cross bus station that arrives there at 1800 on Monday evening.

We take the 18:08 Stagecoach in Chesterfield route 51 to Chesterfield, Church Way arrving 18:38 on Monday

We make our way to the station for the 1906 XC departure, alighting at Exeter St Davids at 2243 Monday evening

A long station wait is cheaper than a hotel, so we eventually board the 0106 FGW service to Taunton that arrives at 0135 on Tuesday morning.

We take the 02:32 First Great Western sleeper service to Liskeard, arriving at 06:07 Tuesday

Amazed that the Looe train departs just before the arrival of the sleeper we have a change of tack and make our way into town for an early breakfast and the 574 Western Greyhound bus, which takes us at 0740 to St Ive, Butchers Arms, arriving at 0806 Tuesday morning

St Ive is an intruiging name and since we have already breakfasted, we decide to explore its environs, but making sure that we are not too late to make a short onward bus ride and having returned to the Butchers Arms, we board the 0906 Western Greyhound service to Callington (New Road) that arrives there at 0916 on Tuesday morning.

We continue on DAC's 79A departure at 0930 and travel to Cothele Quay arriving at 0949 on Tuesday morning

Cothele stands on an east-facing shelf of land overlooking the river and has an excellant National Trust residence, but we have arrived far too soon to use our time to visit it, so we spend a goodly amount of time at the river and the town, taking in some mid-morning refreshments before eventually returning to the quay to board the 1249 DAC Coaches service 79A to Tavistock bus station that arrives there at 1335 on Tuesday afternoon.

We have time for a quick bite of lunch before catching Jacketts Coaches service 87 at 1415 to Bere Alston Pounds Park, arriving at 1435 Tuesday afternoon

We take the 16:05 First Great Western service to Plymouth, arriving at 16:30 Tuesday

The call of the omnibus proves far too strong to resist so we leave the railway station and have a light meal before returning to the bus stop that we noted outside the railway station where we board the 1748 Western Greyhound service 592 to Lower Clicker (outside the Hayloft Restaurant) that arrives there at 1817 on Tuesday afternoon.

Lower Clicker is quite close to Menheniot Station so we make our way there, and continue on the 1845 FGW departure to Liskeard, arriving at 1853, Tuesday evening

Time for an early evening ride down the branch line, so we board the 1918 FGW service to Looe that arrives there at 1949 on Tuesday evening.

A very tight connection to the 1951 Western Greyhound 573 departure outside the station to Barcelona (chosen for the name) getting off at West Wayland Holiday Park at 1957, Tuesday evening

Time to spare to enjoy the early evening exploring the local lanes, before returning to the Holiday Park to board the 2057 Western Greyhound service 573 to Polperro (Mill Hill) that arrives there at 2107 on Tuesday evening.

Time to have an early night since we spent most of last night hanging about stations or on the move, so we hunt around for a B&B with a vacancy then continue our journey next morning on Travel Cornwall's 481 departure at 0820 to Polruan Quay, arriving at 0850 Wednesday morning

We take the 10:40 Travel Cornawall route 482 to Bodmin, Asda superstore, arriving 12:05 Wedsnesday

We catch Travel Cornwall's 454 town service back into the centre of Bodmin, leaving at 1224 and arriving outside Bodmin General station at 1234, Wednesday lunchtime

Never mind, how about a ride on a heritage railway instead...


We book our tickets and note with pleasure that the "lilac" timetable applies on the Bodmin and Wenford Railway that day and board the steam-hauled 1250 service to Bodmin Parkway railway station that arrives there at 1307 on Wednesday afternoon.

From Bodmin Parkway, we take the 15:18 First Great Western service to Reading, arriving at 18:49 on Wednesday

We have an hour to wait before catching the 1952 FGW HST to Evesham, arriving at 2115 Wednesday evening

Yet another "long wait" sees us eventually board the 2301 FGW service to Oxford that arrives at 2358 on Wednesday night.

The Great Wen summons us so we catch the last FGW turbo of the day at 0027 calling at just about all stations, bailing out at Ealing Broadway at 0153 on Thursday morning.

We are far too late to book into anywhere at this unearthly hour, so we resign ourself to a four-hour wait until it is time to board the 0554 FGW service to Greenford that arrives at 0609 on Thursday morning.

We make our way to the Central Line platforms for the 0624 to West Ruislip arriving at 0633 Thursday morning

night buses could have kept us occupied and amused, if that's the right word
