Polperro has much to offer the casual visitor in the way of sightseeing, so we take the afforded opportunity to do just that, before eventually returning from whence we started and board the 1240 Western Greyhound service 573 to West Looe (Fire Station) that arrives there at 1255 on Sunday afternoon.

As the 573 is the only Sunday public transport in Polperro, we return on the 1140 departure, getting off at Sandplace Railway Gate at 1204, Sunday lunchtime

Too slow

We have to continue to Sandplace on the 1322 rail departure. arriving belatedly at 1327, Sunday afternoon

Sunday is an ideal day to explore the hinterland and we have over half an hour to explore the lanes near to the railway station, before returning there to board the 1404 Western Greyhound service 573 (yet again) to Liskeard (the stop opposite to the railway station) that arrives there at 1419 on Sunday afternoon.

We decide it's too far to walk to the town centre, so wait around for the 1511 FGW train to Newton Abbot, arriving 1633 Sunday afternoon

Time to go for a early Sunday evening meal to sustain us which we consume at leisure, knowing the times of the trains on Sunday from here and we have time to slowly retrace our steps to the railway station, where we board the 1837 XC service to Exeter St Davids that arrives there at 1856 on Sunday evening.

We decide we want to go see the Isle of Wight, but first of all have to get to Portsmouth Harbour, so we take the 0050 South West Trains service on the early hours of Monday Morning, where we arrive in Portsmouth Harbour station at 0219

It is only when we disembark do we remember the recent clarification from Zoe that travel to the Isle of Wight is not allowed (well, not until it receives a fixed link such as a tunnel or a rather expensive road bridge), so we pass away the time seeing the waters of the Solent flow by, before boarding the 0600 FGW service to Cardiff Central that arrives there at 0943 on Monday morning.

After a late breakfast, we catch the 1057 ATW train - as it covers some (well relatively - once a day) infrequently served track - and alight at Whitland at 1245, Monday afternoon

It's a measure of how integrated transport in this area in that the bus to Milford Haven leaves at 1419 from outside the station. So we miss it and wait for the next at 1559 (Silcox 356) arriving at Milford Haven Tesco at 1640 Monday afternoon

Time to book in for the night and ask for a 0430 alarm call and a packed lunch to take, rather than to have a breakfast because of the very early hour, so suitably rested in both body and mind, we return to the railway station to board the 0524 ATW service to Barry that arrives there at 0619 on Tuesday morning.

Much as we would wish to trace the sites of the closed railway stations in Dowlais that were closed in the 1960's, we continue our tour of the "Heads of the Valleys" and we board the 1012 Stagecoach in South Wales service 1 to Rhymney (High Street) that arrives there at 1023 on Tuesday morning.
